I want to block the vent right above the trans. hump in my 1980 Elkie. I would rather have more air out of the vents on the dash and don't need it on the floor. Am I gonna regret it? I don't believe air goes in it when the AC is set to max. I can't find anything in any of the shop manuals that rules out doing this.

Is there a search thread on this?
Anyone have an opinion?
Gonna do this tomorrow I think.

Other than maybe having cold feet in the winter, I don't think it'd much matter. It's a duct...why not slap some duct tape over it on a trial basis before you do something on a more permanent basis.

I wrote up a fix for the bi-level damper a while back. The foam on the mode door falls apart, and it never stops the air from coming out the lower vents when in Normal or Vent modes.

Basically, if you take the directors off the lower vent, you can look up inside and glue on a new piece of foam. Then it will work as GM designed it, air out the floor only in Off, Bi-Level, or Heat mode.

Both good replies and I thank you. I was going to either tape it off or use something to block it

I repaired the foam on the door that is basically behind the radio/heater control. It sounds like this is that door or else there is another one. I definitely have air coming out this vent when on max and regular AC so there may be another door I need to replace the foam on. Or, now that I am thinking, maybe the repair I did on the door before has failed and need to be redone.

That's the door... there's only that one that controls air flow out the floor vent. Sounds like you made the same repair as I did, but maybe the foam was not tight enough against the duct walls? That's where the seal needs to be made tight.

Here's the thread I had: http://elcaminocentral.com/ftopict-22175.html The picture links are still good.

When it's working right, on Max, Normal, and Vent, all the air comes out the dash vents.

Mr. Hamilton,

Thank you so much for the email. It is just what I needed. It is persons like yourself that warrant donating to this site and keeping it alive. Your message and thread have been permanently printed out and added to my how to note book. I will be working on this vent this weekend in high expectations of many fall cruises.

Thanks again.
