How hard is it to replace heater core? And is there any instructions as to which approach is easier to access the heater core? Thanks any input or advice will be appreciated.

I just replaced the heater core in my '79 using those very same instructions. Very helpful and complete!

The reason I recently had to change my heater core is that I damaged (translation: broke) the heater core nipple changing heater hoses. You may have done the same thing, however, check and ensure that the clamps that tighten the hoses down are snug before you tear back into the heater box.

Since one of the heater hoses is larger than the other, you shouldn't have gotten them crossed, but if you managed to, it wouldn't matter, since the heater core just passes hot water thru it to provide in-cabin heat. It's not directional.

Hope this helps.
