PostPosted: Thu Aug 28, 2008 2:19 pm    Post subject: power door glass regulator, no counter spring ?? Reply with quote

well this all started this morning when i pulled the regulator assembly out to replace the noisy window lift motor..

ok i noticed on the 85 elky that both the power regulators have no spring...

is this correct for this application ?

very interesting..

i thought all applications always needed to have the spring..

the ones in the 84 riviera parked out here have the spring, and are the same regulator assemblies except for one guide wheel is smaller in the elky than the riviera(the horizontal short length guide track on the door inner panel)

i put a spring on the driver side regulator and stuck it in the elky and now when the glass is going down it hops skips jumps all the way down

but rolls up just fine smooth..

does not need spring ??

please help.

thanks

I got a question for you Randy. Why all the double and triple spacing and why no paragraphs? Just one liners? You are just eating up page space. No need for that.

Doug hi there

well thats my style im sorry.. i started this thread i can type it however i wish unless an admin tells me differently

i love how youve got me singled me out when many others do the same thing as well.

i dont go to any of your threads and suggest a different/better way that you should make your posts

everyone is different and types differently ok.. you should understand this for a minute.

just because apparently you must have all the time in the world to sit and type everything 100% correctly and whatever doesnt mean the next person does or can so quickly/efficiently.

some ppl have a real busy life and have too much to do in a day to sit and make each post perfect as can be

some ppl are so anal about little things and maybe need to find more things to do to occupy themselves instead of nitpicking at ppl over something that does not affect their life at all until they make themselves involved interjectively

and just because you may be a site contributor doesnt mean you should pretend your an admin and tell ppl how they should or shouldnt do something on the site..

typing everything out perfectly with all punctuation would take me all day to do, as i have never learned to type properly and with more than two or three fingers,, and i never will be able to.. how ppl do it i have no idea,..,
soo..

you type how you wish and i leave you alone and i type how i wish and you leave me alone, thats how it should be. just because you dont liek it doesnt mean its wrong or should be any different

i dont have to stay here and be complained at, i have too many other sites to keep up with already. and im doing good to keep up with 3 or 4 of them at any given moment, so...

VERY few things bother me in life, but complainer types do get to me pretty badly, ppl do it too much and im really tired of it, it is something that so many ppl really seem to love to do, is complain/criticize/critique, etc

i guess some ppl feel they have to have something to complain about, i guess it maybe makes them feel better if they do ?
i dunno ?
such a common thing unfortunately.. Sad

im not gonna sit here and try to figure out something that i may not like about you from what i can see or tell from your posts here to complain about, i dont have the time nor the will to

i have asked many site owners about this site space phenomenom in the past, and they always told me its nothing to worry about at all..

they wont even delete old for sale threads and such that should be deleted and that i have asked ot be deleted even..

seem to have endless space to use up, apparently..

so..

im not here to be complained at..

i am here to find out answers and to also in turn help out those i can.. with any of their problems since i have many year sof technical experience with the billions of vehicles i have owned and also repaired or helped restore or build up for hundreds of ppl over the years

i am a silly happy positive minded persin and love to help other vehicle enthusiast out any chance i am given and its the way i always have bene and will always be, yet some ppl still manage to somehow misunderstand me and think i am only out to cause trouble and it REALLY gets to me bad when that does happen..

it is quicker and easier to type this way i dont have extra time to sit and make everything nice and perft like you may have

i have a super busy life and am gone at any moment for an unknown period of time

its always crazy here.. my life is extremely random and unknown i could be out of town in 5 minutes for all i know, at any moment of each day, or i could be working on something that i had no clue i would be, in the same amount of time.. there is always something going on.. helping ppl repair or research things, or working at the shop or who knows what, plus going to work(two jobs)and trying to sleep and eat.. if i even have time for those in a day, im down to 134lbs now at 6 foot tall because i have no time to sit and eat most of the time and its been this way for years and years, sleep time is minimal, i have been up since yesterday morning its now 6:30 am andi wont be sleeping anytime soon, probably not until tonight if i have time to even then,

so i have to hurry up and post and so i can get done and move on and leave and go do what work i have to do

and i cannot type fast and accurately at the same time, i never learned how to

i have to do it any way i can

you are the only person that i can recall ever complain about forum space ?

and i am a member of literally hundreds now..

so i am really confused here..

i dont have to stay here and put up with something like this, i can leave and go post on other forums and recommend them, and not this one to ppl who are looking for one to become a member of...

because i will not recommend one so finicky and particular about minor things such as this ..

this site doesnt seem ot have very many members who seem to be very technically skilled regarding these or well any vehicles anyways

maybe there is a reason why behind that.. related to this perhaps.. hmmm

maybe BS forums and such should be done away with if space is an issue for this site ??

thanks!

i will now listen to what you have to say in response to this..

maybe we can reach an agreement or understanding here..

if not then i dunno what to tell you..

maybe i have you all wrong?

and you have me all wrong ?

maybe youve had a long bad day or something else?
we will see ?

i am open minded and willing to read and reason and not get mad or anything like that

i just cant deal with it very well when someone complains or something, and when i only ever try to help others out as best as i can and am not around to cause any trouble or anything else..

ppl who do that really get to me..

i already have more enough to deal with every day and plenty of whiners and complainers as well, so i really dont need any more..

ppl need ot lighten up its a short life and make the best of it, be happy and positive.. doing this could potentially solve alot of mankind's and society's issues

but it will not happen, and so we are doomed eventually if not already

so just make the best of it and do what ya gotta each day to make it and without hurting others..

thanks for helping with the topic of my thread here, until this point here now.,

peace!

I'm sorry Randy,

it appears your typing style........

is the least of your problems.

Randy, you have it correct.

Many people here like to complain or even when you post somthing they are their to correct you that you were wrong.

Too many sooo called expert backyard mechanics,

But their are many good people here with good advise and experiance.

I myself have 32 years automotive and truck experiance and get tired of these corrections and don't bother to post much anymore.

You always need to appoligise in you post for any unknown mistakes you may state or you get blasted for your thoughts and we will see what this gets.

Dan

I have the same issue with my windows passenger and driver. Going up is just fine but when I let the window down, it seems to shutter, make noise and hop around. Any ideas where it is the motor or regulator. The motor seams to be working fine so I really only want to change the part that is at fault.

Thanks to all that reply.

78 and 79s had counterbalance springs.
78 had the old square motor which used a hot/ hot wiring for direction

79 had the newer motow which uses a flip flop wiring.

80 up did not have springs.

For the jumping window going down that's caused by a few things. Worn rollers are the primary cause. They wear and sometimes the stud loosens up in the regulator too which is a harder replacement unles you have the tools to put them in.

The center of the scissor assm also wears. This is not really repairable.

If anyone needs I have a couple pairs of the 78 regulators one pair is missing a motor. They are noticably faster than the later ones without the spring. they can be used on the later cars by disconnecting a few wires at the switch.

On the Doug and Randy exchange, I personally didn't detected any criticism or disrespect from Doug. They were fair questions from my reading.

Randy you go ahead and format your posts how you are comfortable mate.

To 78 Hot Rod Elky, I find ECC members to be overall quite respectful of other members opinions and faux pas'. When answering a query if someone gets the facts wrong it is usually answered with a courteous correction.
