I am redoing my 78 and I am going from a column shift to a floor shift.
I would like to have a floor shift steering column but I am assuming that a it would be hard to find and a lot of work to make everything work. What has anyone else done when they changed..

Maybe look into a floor shift column out of a camaro...shouldn't be too hard to find. Make sure it's 78 or earlier though...79 and up uses a different style of shaft. _________________ 1975 El Camino http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_album358.html
I'm also looking into converting my 77 sprint from column shift to floor shift.
The main reason for my switch is the column has a lot of slop in it but other than that I like the look and feel of a floor shifter and it sets me up for ratcheting style floor shifters later on for bigger and badder motors.
So 77 and earlier camero columns will work? Any issues with the blinkers? _________________ 1977 GMC Sprint - "El Sprinto"

If your looking for an auto floor shift column, there out there. I just got one off the garage sale section for a good price. You can also check out maliburacingdotcom and montecarlossdotcom in the classified sections. Some of the sponsors have used parts for sale also. Might try contacting them for prices. If you looking for a floor shift manual trans column, good luck. Not many made and kind of pricey if you do find one. Another alternative is aftermarket. Flaming River and Ididit both make different versions of the GM steering column.

I am also thinking about changing my column shift steering column to a floor shift one by removing the opening where the shift lever comes out. Has anyone else done this?
