well i think i hit a snag on my 73 Oldsmobile 442 that i have been working on i was planing on making my driver. the car sat for 13 years i got it running pretty easy but the transmission won't shift into any gear not even neutral. so i checked the trans fluid and it is a thick pink slim is there anyway to fix that without having to rebuild the whole trans?? i was thinking about draining the whole trans and even taking the pan off and cleaning it out and dump fresh tans fluid till it is just normal trans fluid but will that even work or would it be a total waste of time?? Any idea's would be highly appreciated. _________________ 4th Gen's Rock
Can't hurt! Get a new filter, pan gasket and fluid. Drain the trans (the converter will still be full) clean the pan replace the filter. Then refill the trans and try it! If it pulls after that run it (drive it if possible) a while and see what happens. If the fluid still looks funny after that you could try changing it a second time.
Are you sure that the fluid level isn't low and it just foamed up from trying to run it low? _________________ "Still Just Truck'in"

Johnny could be 100% correct. Let the fluid settle then re-check it. You will then know if it foamed up or not when you ran it. If the fluid is in fact thick and gummy, then it will in most likley hood need to be disassembled and cleaned, (re-built). As when you ran it, it pumped that sludge through the tranny and gummed and plugged it. Might be a good reason and time to check into that 200r4 replacement that you've been thinking about. lol _________________ http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_CoyoteOn2s77Cage.html

The funny thing is i was thinking about getting a 200r4 trans to put in it but i don't know how well a 200r4 will stand up to an olds 350 they were normally only backing v6's or small an weak v8s like an olds 307 or a chevy 305.. i know my 442 is only putting out like 220hp but with around 320ft pounds of torque so it would more than likely be near death behind that olds 350... does anyone happen to know what the torque limit for a stock 200r4 trans is??? i can get a good used 200r4 for like $250 or a rebuilt one for like $700 to $900... _________________ 4th Gen's Rock
