I have an extra crossmember from my 78 and was wondering how another member may have fabricated theirs into a double hump crossmember.

You would need to figure out where the exhaust will run on the drivers side, notch crossmember and re-inforce the notch for strength.

I'd be a little concerned that crossmember will be too weak where you removed all the material. I see you welded some more back in to help, but that is pretty thin in the center of the cutout. Do you have this back in the car? And how does it seem to be holding up?

A friend of mine cut a section out of his and carefully welded in a thick piece of 3" round pipe (cut in half). The half-pipe shape allowed him to run his exhaust pipe in and the thickness holds the strength needed.

I ran that x-mem for two years before I sold the Elky. Never had any problems at all with it, even slam shifting the 5-spd. I'd do it again without thinking twice about it! Cool If you do it right, it'll be just as strong as any other x-mem out there. I've made a couple others for members on here and havn't had any complaints on those either.

you'll have to click the pic to zoom in, but you can see how mine is done. I've had no ground clearance issues so far. I hope I don't after I lower it.

Hey Nate, I would not run that left front tire even with a 305. Poke Tounge

I run full length headers from advance auto. I think they are Flomax IIRC.

and don't worry, those tires wont see the road again.... unless they're on the back smoking. Cool
