I got in the mail my '86-87 Tach Kit from the EC Store and it came without instructions (of course!). The tach itself looks modified, and has a brown wire coming from it that I can only guess is the tach filter wire that other threads have shown. I see the two other nuts on the back of the plastic panel labeled LNG and GRD. Does this plug into the factory circuit board or do I have to run my own wires? My first thought is that it bypasses the factory circuit board but I am not sure. Instructions of course would help a great deal if it came with them...
Has anyone else bought this kit and have the instructions or had success with the installation?
EDIT: Here are two pics of the tach to highlight my questions.

Nate, look at the letters again ~~ I'd bet it's ING not LNG and would go to a possitive that is hot when ignition is on. The other is GND and will go to a ground. The Brown wire is the signal pick up wire, and will go to the sender or DISTRIBUTOR side of the ignition coil. _________________ http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_CoyoteOn2s77Cage.html

What he said.
Also everything clips into the dash circuit board. Depends on which one you have as well.
Even on cars with factory gauges it's a good idea to hardwire around the circuit board because well it was a bad idea and doesn't make good contact. Usually power and ground are good but the tach feed is often poor.
Your brown wire in the pic plugs directly into the coil where it says tach or on later ones with seperate coils it plugs into the connector for the tach.
The only thing the tach filter ever did was to cause intermittent loss of tach signal and annoy the driver. They should have left it off at the factory and lowered the price of each car by a $1.50. I always bypass the filter. _________________ Robert Adams

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys. I do have the other factory gauges so I imagine that the circuit board would work. I think I will wire it up myself though due to the age of the car and circuit board. Anyone know of a good power source under dash when the ignition is on? I hard-wired the tach on my old '68 years ago and wanted to avoid the pain again of spliced wires under the dash and keep it as simple as possible.
There should be several pink wires around the back of the dash. They are ignition feeds for gauges and etc.
The brown tach wire goes to the (-) side NOT the positive though. No offense coyoteon2. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

None taken 464, it's that damn DYSLEXIA and ALZHIEMERS ( see can't spell it either) so let's just say THAT OLD FOLKS DIEASE, did it to me again. I just hate it when that happens, but most of the time I can't remember it anyways. Thanks for the save !!!!

Well I finally got the chance to install the tach. Everything went smoothly and the tach fit correctly without any splicing of wires. My circuit board was in excellent shape and the tach is accurate. I previously replaced my dash bulbs but didn't have the time to paint the inside of the cluster white to enhance the reflectivity. I did it this time and what a HUGE difference! My dash lights are as bright as any modern car. Thanks for the assist guys!
