The temperature blend door, the one controled by the sliding lever and is cable operated, doesn't open completely, i.e., the sliding lever won't go all the way to the right (hot), just about 3/4 way. Heat seems to work fine.

I replaced the heater core just before this, could (probably did, but what?) I have done something to prevent the slider from going all the way to the right (hot) during the replacement?

Hep me!

Many thanks.

Have you checked the threaded adjustment at the end of the cable? You have to move the temp lever and make sure you can hear the door hitting at full cold. It may not hit at full hot, but it should be close to the end.

Otherwise, have you checked the blend door lever is not broken?

Thanks for the tips.

I took a look last night. Blend door lever not broken. Took the cable loose from the lever, blend door moves freely, however, the cable is very sticky at the far end of travel.

I shot some WD-40 on the cable end, moved the lever back and forth a few times, seemed to free up quite a bit, although still a little drag on it towards the hot temp.

All in all, works, but I figure sometime in the near future, I'll have to figure out how to lube or replace the cable.

Thanks for all the help.

Glad you got it fixed. I don't think you could lubricate the cable any better than what you did, since the end is looped you can't get the core out to really clean it. Should be fine in an interior application like that.

Might also pull the control head and clean/lubricate that end, and the switch sliders. I used a little bit of white lithium to lubricate mine. A slightly heavier grease might work a bit better, though.

Sounds like good advice. I'll try to get to that this weekend, along with new foam on the lower door so I can get more air/heat to the defrosters and upper A/C ducts.

Thanks again for your help.
