What will cause the INST PNL fuse to blow as soon as you pull out the light switch. I'm assuming that fuse is for the dash lights since my lights doesn't work.
Thanks.

you have a direct short somewhere. you'll need to have the power off and test the positive wires individually for continuity with ground. you'll need an ohm meter, and you'll need to remove the bulbs to avoid a false reading.

Have you checked your headlight switch?

It contains the dash light dimmer rheostat also your dome light when turned to the left.

That would be my (now educated) guess

On my 83 i had the same problem, kept blowing that 5 w fuse.
Dash wouldnt light and dome light would not come on.

The new switch works great and no longer blowing fuses.

DONT pull the knob out of the old switch while still attached!
Mine came out surprisingly hard. The new switch required me to use the old knob.

It was definitely the light switch. The other day while driving with my headlight on the switch started smoking. Turned out to be a short in the switch.

Thanks
