Welcome - Introduction

The help forums can be heavy traffic at times, so the idea is to keep your related problems all in one thread in the correct forum without cross-posting anywhere else. Doing otherwise may have your thread removed or unanswered. Please read this thread and search the forums for your problem/resolution prior to posting. Usually, an answer may have already been posted for common problems or questions.

Forums/Site Etiquette

Before we begin in any forum, lets keep in mind that a well mannered, well behaved site acts like a magnet for experienced users who are happy to help folks who are new. However, poorly behaved forums with repetitive topics will not only drive them away, but also new members. Whether or not people keep coming back for quality posting is up to each of us.

Getting Help: What you need to know

To help us help you from the moment you post your new thread, its best to provide as much detail about the problems you are having. To do that a minimum of what should be posted is:
Mention the model year of your El Camino and engine.
Anything you have done to solve or create the problem.
How long have you had the problem.
When does the problem occur.

Title your thread appropriately, and not with "I need help!"

Mostly new threads here are seeking help anyway, so we know you need assistance. Instead of calling your thread "help,"
title it accordingly to your problem like: "Won't start cold."

Giving Help - Being a Team Member

One of the most important features of El Camino Central and The National El Camino Owners Association is the reaching influence on El Camino/Sprint/Caballero owners worldwide. Many folks come here seeking help without thought to help others out afterwards. It is our common goal to progress both in expertise and knowledge, so if you found a way to fix something, or a tip/trick that hasn't been posted before, please by all means post it so that others may benefit from your experience and knowledge. After all, we're a global family. Plus, it gives you the chance to give back to the ECC/NECOA community.

Appropriate behavior and content

Profanity, racial slurs, personal attacks, and destructive postings will not be tolerated in any form. Whether it is content or language. And acronyms that refer to prohibited or offensive word types are also not acceptable on this Forum. Above all keep in mind that this is a family oriented site. The offending poster will be notified one time only that the appropriate action has be taken, including but not limited to the editing or removal of the offending material. The second offense may result in a probationary period of one week, or immediate termination, (action taken is at the moderator's discretion.) The third will result in immediate termination and the banning of said account.

How Do I Make My First Post?
The easiest way to get started is to go to the "FORUMS" Page. You can select "FORUMS" from the top ribbon of the HOME page (the page that opens after you log in to elcaminocentral.com). The "FORUMS" button is on the very left side of the second ribbon from the page top. When you click on the button, a page listing all of the Forums and sub-forums of the website will open. Scroll down to the ""For New Members Only" Forum, and click on the heading. That will open the Forum, and you should see a button "New Thread". (a "Thread" is a subject matter posting that starts a discussion on the topic, such as "My LS1 Overheats" - a "Post" is a comment made within the subject matter heading that may offer a solution or ask another question.) Click on that button and you will be able to title your introductory message, and then write an introduction telling the members briefly about yourself. This not only introduces you to our membership, but also serves to make you more familiar and comfortable with posting on the Forum. Go here to open the "For New Member Only" Forum: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13.

From the "FORUMS" page, you can scroll to any of the Forums or sub-forums, click on the titled subject that interests you, and open the discussions. If you want to post your own comments or ask a question, there will be a button "Post Reply" that will open a dialog box where you can make your comment or ask a question. Again, you must title your post before it will be accepted. Also, you must have 25 or more posts to make a new Thread in the For Sale sub-forum. You do not need the posting requirements (25 posts) to post about "Parts Wanted".

From the "HOME" page, you can look at the most recent 20 or so Threads, ordered from the most recent to the oldest. The age of the oldest post shown here depends on how active the website is at any given time. If you find a Thread of interest, simple click on the Heading to open the thread. Once in the Thread, you may close it by clicking on your "back" arrow or button, or you can open a dialog box for making a post within that Thread by clicking on the "Post Reply" button. You need to know that Threads started within the "General BS Files" do NOT show up on the "HOME" page. In general, our rules require that Threads made on our website must be El Camino related - one exception to that rule is Threads made in the "Other Vehicle Discussion".

If you wish to include photos of your El Camino in your introduction, which we strongly encourage, please read some simple how-to guidelines here:
http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?t=212129&highlight=Photos

Also, after you make your introductory post, please send me your complete mailing address and I’ll send you a couple of our NECOA window decals. Thanks, and I hope this brief tutorial helps you to become a very active and contributing member of our Association................Ken Rogers, NECOA National Director

While El Camino Central neither endorses nor opposes any political party or belief, we do at times feel it necessary to close
certain threads to maintain a tone of civility in the forums.

I am all for Freedom of Speech, I am also for agreeing to disagree... as long as we can remain agreeable about it.
El Camino Central was never intended as a forum for poliltical debate, yet it seems at times we cannot avoid certain topics that we as individuals are passionate about.

El Camino Central, and the National El Camino Owners Association is an organization of men, women, children who are passionate about El Caminos and their GM cousins. We are people who would normally not mix, but we find a common bond in our love for the El Camino.
Let us then focus on the similarities between us and not the differences of opinion that would tear us apart. Please remember too, that we are a family oriented organization.

In other words, let us be "Civil" in our conversation among ourselves. And, if anyone feels the need to hold heated debates of this nature, please do so in private emails or on forums where it is the norm.

Every member here is valuable asset to ECC/NECOA, regardless of their personal opinions, without our cohesion we are little more than a message board where "anything goes." And if that is what we become, then our popularity will surely die.... no one will find us a fun and safe place to discuss El Caminos.

About El Camino Central

El Camino Central is a database-driven, dynamic content, virtual community for Chevrolet El Camino owners and friends.

El Camino Central was founded early 1998 by Robert C. More to share his hobby and experience with El Caminos with others. After undergoing several designs, software changes, and formats, and negative reaction from a few other automotive forums expresing the overall lack of interest in an exclusive "El Camino" forum, he was about to give up and move on to other projects. It was not until September 10th, 2002, that El Camino Central gained it's first registered user, and co-founder, Rob Haggard, (Poltergeist). It is this reason we mark September 10th, 2002 as our official founding anniversary. The two Robs soon became brothers-in-arms and found much in common aside from our love of El Caminos. With Rob H's encouragement, assistance with design, administration, their combined posts and articles, El Camino Central soon became a popular site among El Camino owners and aficionados. We immediately gained a handful of seasoned and knowledgeable members ie., Ernie G. (87Elcamino), Robin C. (Mrapii), Vernon E. (ElkyPete), Peter Brown (87SS), and many many others who devoted extensive time and effort to begin and maintain the helpful and courteous tradition which has made the site famous worldwide, and a role model for others. In early 2003, after much consideration and dialog between the administators, current members and then National Director of the National El Camino Owners Association, Dan Smith (ElkySS), and NECOA members,
El Camino Central and The National El Camino Owners Association, combined membership and elcaminocentral.com became the internet home of the NECOA.

After the merge, we had nearly 900 members. Today, (March 2009) El Camino Central has over 13,000 members in the US, South America, Canada, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe making us the largest, greatest and friendliest group of El Camino owners in the world.

1. Your access to this forum is a privilege, NOT a right. Your access here can be terminated at a moderator's or administrator’s discretion. While we want to allow as much discussion as possible, there is no “free speech” here. It is up to the discretion of the moderators and administrators as to what goes and what does not.
2. Be reasonable, civil and respectful of one another. Personal bashing will not be tolerated. If you see someone who needs help, help them out. If all else fails, notify a moderator. New members should read these site rules before posting.
3. If you are suspended or banned from the forums and do not know why, you can contact a moderator. More than likely, they will explain and possibly work things out with you if you are polite, considerate and reasonable.
4. Do not complain endlessly over site malfunctions; the administrators are usually aware of any problems and will fix them in due course. Once it is reported, there is no need to repeat the complaint.
5. It is expressly forbidden to post public messages asking why someone has been suspended or banned. If you really want to know, ask that individual, or send a PM to a moderator who may, or may not, fill you in.
6. Violating these rules may result in a suspension or ban. Depending on the reason, you may have some or NO warning at all by a moderator. We are under no obligation to warn you, since the rules are clearly posted. But we will handle each discrepancy as it arises if you communicate privately with us in a polite and mature manner.
