I will surely get my own pile of useless parts going soon to because Amazon ain't got it all.
I found out the hard way my 87 was the last year they made the truck so they used all the leftover parts on all these trucks. Different parts I have metric and ase bolts. I have to check every part to make sure the connectors are the same. I have taken parts off then went to put the new ones on and they don't fit so I'm stuck with no truck till I exchange the others and it's my only ride and there not in walking distance.

So if you see me asking the same question more than twice or see detailed post with video's this is why.

I have learned to never characterize any of my cars as fixed....they are just temporarily between malfunctions. .....Dan ( old_coot)

Years ago my friend was so proud he replaced a bad water pump on his Ford 460 4bbl. V8 F250 truck, it was an '83. He thought he might have stripped a bolt because he couldn't get it to tighten, an sure enough it would get almost tight then no tighter. I checked a couple other bolts and they did the same. I pulled the bolts out and noticed some were a bluish color and new instantly Ford had put some metric and some SAE bolts helter skelter all over the vehicle. I noticed on other makes before this, I think they were changing over to the metrics in the '80s.
I still remember as a boy helping my Dad work on the family cars and him cussing the engineers, I guess things never change.

That's the problem engineers don't use it they just think it up and put it on paper. So after that it's our problem.

Who came up with a ten pack of hotdogs but only an eight pack of buns. They just fixed that if you didn't know. 8x8 not 10x10 of course

Get this I decided to only get the rear springs and 4- insulators from Advanced auto. After checking out with their discount and gift card my bottom line was I'm paying $79.00 for the parts and getting a $50.00 gift card.

The trick with advanced auto to use the gift card you need to place another order for $100.00 so I don't buy there unless I need something else and I do shocks. the thing is when you checkout you only need $100.00 in your cart then use the gift card and it drops it to $50.00 I owe and two Blistein shocks are close to $100.00 so now I buy one get one free.

bottom line I'm getting 2-Blistein shocks 2- Moog springs and 4- insulators for under a $100.00Almost forgot free shipping

That even beats Amazon! Great way to start the New Year!
Now all you have to do is figure out how to turn off the blue writing(just joking).

Yes but not on an El Camino. Twice. In both cases, I used GM AutoLevel parts. I love the way it worked on both cars.

I had a 95 Roadmaster wagon with factory auto-level. I replaced the leaking air shocks with Monroe cop shocks and AirLift bags. I used the stock auto-level system with a minor modification to the compressor.

I also have a 67 Chevelle wagon I did the same thing with - AirLift bags and GM auto level. I pulled the compressor, sensor, and wiring pigtails and air line pigtails off a Caddy or Olds sedan. They all use the same compressor. I installed the compressor and sensor on Chevelle wagon with home-built wiring harness.

When using the GM compressor with the airlift bags, you need mod the pressure relief on the compressor to allow the system to air down to near 0.

Some info here:

I had a great thread there with pics and everything but I think it was wiped out in a DB error.

I finally got the rear springs installed. It was a cinch. You just have to be careful of not overextending the brake line. I went with GM 45H3013. The ride height pretty much stayed the same and the ride is only a little stiffer. Impossible to find the specs like spring rate but I did find the wire diameter and compared those. This spring is much more heavy duty unit than the stock(see Picture). The picture doesn't really highlight the difference in wire diameter but it is a lot thicker than the stock. I am happy now, i can start looking for a boat and know towing won't be a problem now.
Fronts next(shudder), at least my son will be helping out along with a new floor jack from Costco(excellent jack, hard to believe it only cost $99.95 and weighs 104 pounds and works excellent).
