While it is fact that lifter bores are not all the same, don't know how much it contributes to the problem. Your guess is as good as mine.

yes break in the new lifter to the cam just like it was a new cam and lifters set and you should be fine. make sure you use good oil and cam lube . make sure you have everything right when you start it. evcessive cranking can wipe off the cam lube before it has a chance to do its job. when you set the dist in make sure its timed right the first time to avoid too much cranking . dot to dot on the chain you put the dist on # 6,both dots strait up should be # 1. when i do one in the car i set the dist before i put the cover back on so they start the first time without issues of being 180 out or moveing a tooth or 2 when finishing the rest of the reassembly
