+5 on Westley's Bleach-Wite. Dad taught me to use a wood-handled brush, so you can use the wood handle to rub the letters, then scrub with the brush. Not sure how or why it works, but it does.

Brillo is nasty stuff to work with. Forget it.
I use Bon-Ami or Bar Keepers Friend. They are both mildly abrasive, but, will not scratch (unlike Comet). They both work great on whitewalls, chrome. aluminum, stainless steel, and glass. It takes road film off the windshield like nothing else. |
