Default 1981 el camino follow up post

Hi everybody! this is a follow up post to my previous post. I could NOT get the damn pics to work so i took a video! The video is here

and one of the exhaust is here

questions from video

1. can i make my tachometer work?
2. is there a better more badass air filter available?
3. how in the world do i get my eletrick choke to work? or better yet, can i get a manual one where it's in the cab? my wife has a 2002 sv650s that's carburated and we never have problems but it's a manual choke.

questions not on video
1. my gas gauge is STUCK AT FULL! any way i can fix that?
2. should i just buy a fuel injection kit for the car and be done with it?

thanks for your input!

Hey Tex Mex. The linkage that you were pointing out in the video is the throttle linlage and the top on is the linkage to the transmission. You can have some push on the throttle to make sure as youy watch the linkage to to make sure. The choke is on the other side of the carb,a small round object that shoulld have a wire attached to it. The carb is an Edlebrock four barrel carb. You have an Edlebrock manifold as well as valve covers and air cleaner. To check if its a 350 or not check the motor number on the left side of the front of the motor (as you look at it) or check behind the motor on the drivers side and it should say 5.7l Hope this helps

The top is the throttle and the lower cable is the transmission kick down. As Al said the choke is on the other side. the screw you were pointing out only sets the fast idle while the choke is on. After the engine is warmed up it shouldn't touch anything.
The idle sounds like the mixture and timing are set pretty good.

TEXMEX
check the front of your carb. there is a 4 digit number IE; 1407 when you locate this number go to www.edelbrock.com click on the appropriate heading and it will bring up thr pdf format on the carb. You can gain a world of info. by reading up on your carb , and properly setting it up. As far as the tach goes, you'll need to locate the wiring under the hood ang tie it into uor distributor....could be another google search, but that's the fun of it .'
enjoy

As for the air filter, get a k&n air filter,,the one you need is 14" in diameter and 3" tall, they also make a air cleaner lid to match the filter, its called a extreme air lid I think, try Jegs or Summit, they may make you a package deal on it. Your tachometer hook up to the distributor, the black cover in the center covers the coil, look at the top of it, on is marked BATT, it will be on the right side, the other one is marked TACH, hook it up to that one.

Here's a good thread on the fuel guage issue. I had it too for a while. After checking wires and un plugging and plugging things back in, it started working. Also mine had sat for a while and after I ran a few fresh tanks of gas with some gas treatment, Seafoam, I'm thinking the gummed up sending unit started working again.

See if you can find the documents for your tach. It should have 4 wires - groung, power in run, lights, signal.

Signal needs to come from the distributor.

Your EC actually sounds pretty good.

I would not change the air filter unless you just don't like the way it looks. You won't notice a performance difference.

When you say the throttle response isn't what you expected - what does that mean?
