I have learned to never characterize any of my cars as fixed....they are just temporarily between malfunctions. .....Dan ( old_coot)

Hi Wayne,
My 84 came with a TH250c tranny from the factory. So my new tranny is using the lockup control from the original which I believe is controlled by the ECM and carb.

The shift kit I have is a Superior kit for the 2004r. It has a different boost valve that creates more positive shifts under power yet is pretty smooth and seemless in low throttle situations. I am very happy with this set up.

Hey Robert,
That TH2004r you sold me is awesome! My 3.08 gear seems about right! It only lugs in OD under 45 mph. At about 75 MPH the rpms do not seem high at all. I already see my gas gauge moving less. Can't wait to check my mileage on the next tank!

RTT, Thanks for the reply and I'm glad you're enjoying your 200 as much as I am. YEP,you will be seeing a big difference in gas mileage. I threw the computer away, well I actually still have it, and installed a new vac. advance distributor and THAT with the 200 made a HUGE difference. I use a B&M torque converter lockup control and really like it . The lockup is adjustable from 30-90 mph.

Greetings All,

Thanks for all the great info so far. The hardest part for me is the "not knowing" part but with everyone's help I am getting dialed in to what I need in my ride. Like the mirrors i just bought - I got a nice set of first gen GM sport mirrors but realized only later that the look I really like is the second gen that bolt up high and tight on the front forward corner of the door. So I am buying new mirrors again. If I had waited another week and read a few more threads I could have purchased the right ones the first time around.....

I have decided to go with a turn key crate motor in 350 or if I have more money (doubtful) a 383 putting out numbers in the vicinity of 325 to 360 Hp.

The transmission is going to be a 200R4 with upgraded shift kit.

What would be the ideal rear end for this set up ? - that will allow me to cruise at 85 - 90 all day with out killing anything?

Also what is the largest wheel (all same sized) and tires that I can put on my car with rubbing issues?

Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise guys.
