no pics its a hidden hitch same quality as all thier hitches I would guess .. the specs say 35lbs .. the others say 45lbs .. i can tell you that whatever it is it feels heavy enough to me .. came with draw bar and hitch cover too . rated at 300 tongue weight and 3500 pull rating more than enough for me i plan on pulling a double jetski trailer stand up type skis total weigh 1500-1600lbs I am guessing including my trailer ..

Sounds like a great deal! ... I bought a class III (it's a Draw-tite too!) through U-Haul. These hitches are made when ordered and not a stock shelf item. The class III is a pricey hitch at $289.95 (includes shipping). It weighs 60.4 lbs, 2" receiver tube, max weight with a weight distribution hitch is 6000 lbs. ...The quality looks good to me to

Doug

I wouldnt want to pull anywhere near 6000lbs even with a 8 cyclinder with a elco though ..
the 3500lb would be enough for me .. I will be towing my jetski trailer regularly with it and probably my heavy bowrider 18 foot fliberglass boat in and out of the water with it as well .. I dont think it is over 3500lbs so whould be fine .. keep in mind my car is only a 6cylinder car not even sure what it is rated to tow .. anyone know ? I would guess easily 2000lbs

With a quick search, all I could find out is:
ClassI: W/3.8L (LC3/LD5) motor, auto trans, and a 2.73 rear can pull a gross weight of 2000lbs. W/200lbs. tongue load.
ClassII: W/5.0L (LG4) motor, auto trans, and a 2.41 rear can pull a gross weight of 4000lbs. W/500lbs. tongue load.
ClassIII: W/5.0L (LG4) motor, auto trans, and a 2.73 rear can pull a gross weight of 5000lbs. W/600lbs. tongue load.

I have no plans to go over the factory recommendations! I will be boxing the frame, installing Blazer dual piston front brakes and LS1 Camaro rear disc brakes. heavy duty battery & radiator (as required by the factory too!) and, to start with, a 4-speed manual trans behind a 350 V-8. ...I also checked a 1998 Blazer W/V-6 and a 5-speed manual trans with 4-wheel disc brakes and rear wheel drive (not 4x4): can pull a gross weight of 5500lbs.
FYI, just thought you'd be interested.

Doug

Thanks Doug, interesting info. I saw this thread earlier and was wondering what weight my '65 could pull.

I'm tired...its the only excuse I can come up with! Sorry, I wonder though how different (or not) it would be to the 2nd Gen Elky's? Were frames made better later on.., etc.?

Anyway, thanks for pointing out my error.

Jay, I would guess the towing rates would be near the same for your '65 as with the 5th gen. I pulled a 16ft. OLD travel trailer with my '69 El Camino back in the 70's with no problems! I had a classIII and used a equalizer hitch / anti sway. My '69 had a boxed frame (IIRC, it's been over 30 years since I owned it! ... More like 40 years!) 350 engine w/Muncie 4-speed and a 3.73 rear.

Doug

Thanks Doug. I would like to be able to pull an RV trailer about the same size you pulled behind your Camaro 16-18'. Or possibly a car trailer with a smaller car or empty shell (like my '50 Hudson unibody).

I called today. No more of these discontinued hitches are available from this source. I missed out.

yea i went back on to hithweb and noticed the discount hitch is no longer available ..
guess i picked up one of the last ones ..

so looking at the posts above my car with the 6cylinder only rated at about 2000lbs ..
I am towing two skis at about 400lbs each plus trailer so still no probs .. if I add a tranny cooler sure i could tow more than that ..
