One suggestion for anyone near a lake or other place that services boats. Most marinas have non-ethanol gas for the boats and will sell it to you for your cruck or other vehicles/lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc.

In many locations, that would require a permit, and could invalidate your homeowners insurance.

http://www.b3cfuel.com/products/ethanol-shield/

This is one of the companies that we rep at my job. Im in the outdoor power industry and ethonal is the worst thing for carburators. Ive used it and seen tests what it can do. It is an up and coming company with a great product. Im not trying to sell it to you. Their website will give you locations near you where you can buy it or you can buy it online.

ethanol is not a problem in your engine - like sean said you don't get the same BTU per charge, but you DO get increased octane. if you took the ethanol out of our current gas the octane rating would be almost one point lower.

the only problem it causes is that is WILL break down the rubber in your gaskets - that's why you need to be sure a get a quality rebuild kit when you do your carb. don't get the cheap kind with rubber gaskets o-rings and so on. factory carbs from the 80s had rubber o-rings on the accelerator pump piston. in a new kit that ring will be blue or red, if it's black, it's rubber and WILL melt in the presence of ethanol.

Yep, i remember back in the 80s when I had my first 78 and i was a poor youngon I used the ethanol mix all the time, and the accelerator pumps would go weak every few years.

Heck today I use it but I have no choice.

Corn is not the only source. Sugar cane and sugar beets are also used to produce ethanol.

In Brazil, they use sugar cane for ethanol, and it seems they have lots of it. We buy ethanol from them also
They have developed car engines that run on pure ethanol, from what I've read.

It's more politics than it is energy solutions in this country.

And Brazil is all-but oil independent because of that. There's nothing wrong with ethanol as a fuel ... as long as the vehicle was built purposely to run it. But.... how much rain forest did they destroy to create farm land to grow the sugar cane?

Ethanol is garbage, if you can buy the real stuff do it, unfortunately lobbyists have made that really hard to do, I live in a city with 8 million people and not a single ethanol free gas station

Its ironic, that since Brazil is oil indipendant, then that REALLY sucks that our leader and chief put a moratorium on drilling in the gulf, just to have PetroBraz (Brazil's government run petroliem outfit-they are practically socialists, by the way) pick up all those wells that stood idle to american companies unable to use them because of the moratorium.....so, PetroBraz snatches the leases up(hey, THEY don't have to obey OUR laws or moratoriums) and then sells that (drilling companies now un-tax'd by US) oil right back to us! Oh, and i bet that Brazil has GREAT standards and environmental protections, right?....no, wait! They DON'T! THEY are the ones slashing and burning down the rainforest. So, now they can do the same to the gulf waters un-check'd...
