As indicated by the build sheet, this is a factory SS built at Van Nuys CA. Originally Placer Gold, it was restored (frame-on) in 2006 and repainted Cranberry Red with black stripes. It sports a black vinyl top with matching tonneau cover. There are no leaks or rust anywhere on the vehicle. The original engine and transmission were replaced with a rebuilt 350 4BBL and 350 TH from a mid 70s Corvette, all stock except for a mild cam, HEI distributor, and magnaflows. The original 12 bolt 3.73 posi was replaced with a 10 bolt open-end with 2.56 gears. While this combination is not well suited to the drag strip, it will consistently yield 17 mpg at 70 mph. Options include tachometer and gauge package, automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, tilt wheel, and tinted windows. All gauges work although the clock no longer keeps accurate time. Upgrades include a retro style digital remote controlled AM-FM stereo with MP3 jack and rear speakers. Not a trailer queen but this vehicle will usually place 2nd or 3rd in original truck class at local shows. You will have a hard time finding a cleaner, more original looking 1972 El Camino SS with build sheet. Asking $15K but willing to consider any reasonable offer. Hey Fred , I'm going back to Biff Buzby's this next Friday nite ... you left way too early because there must have been at least 300 cars in the parking lot later in the evening ... there were car double parked and I was surrounded by Camaro's & Corvettes .... I would suggest you get a larger for sale sign's with bright colors if it were me , just my .02 cents .... Good Luck

Thanks for the advice Richard. Unfortunately, market visibility and public interest dont seem to be the issue--a lack of serious cash buyers is. Even if I did put up a 40 foot neon for sale sign, I'd probably still get the same old tire kickers and nose pickers and not one serious offer!

This vehicle now belongs to a gentleman in Houston. Apparently not everyone on Craigs List is a "tire-kicker/nose-picker".

Congrats Fred! I hope you encouraged the new owner to visit us in Belton in May.

I also told him a little about FIXITMAN and encouraged him to contact Roy via the forum if he has questions or wants to convoy up to Belton. He said "Rosie" ran great all the way to Houston and she is getting Vintage Air installed next week. It was tough watching him drive away with that huge smile on his face but I feel great knowing Rosie has a new home where she will be appreciated & cared for (and I now have $$ to finish my 69)! Thanks, Donny. I dont think I could have found a better home for Rosie if I had hand picked it myself. I was a little disappointed that I had no interest/offers from other NECOA members but I know the new owner will treat her as well as any of us. And with a little luck, he may become one of us and end up bringing Rosie up to Belton in May-we will never have too many 3rd Gens show up for me! |
