Question Paint & Body THIS YEAR!!!

I'm planning to go ahead and get the paint and body work done this year. For those who don't know, I have a 1980 SS that's black with the gold SS package. I'm contemplating either going back to original or bringing the gold, in a slighlty different gold-tone, higher up towards the mid/upper part of the side. Something like this:

How many of you think I should go original? How many custom? I know "it's my ride", but I'm just curious what the general consensus is.

Josh, saw an elky the other day ,it was mopar copper bottom, and roof down thru the upper crease on the bed was a cream . really looked sharp, but thats my opinion.
I have a stock 80, that I will be repainting ( see avitar) cruck is now bare steel, I chose to go with the original lt. palamino and darker stripes on hood. the wife says I can use her Kirby vac cleaner to paint it..
all kidding aside I think the gold up to the crease on door/bed would look outstanding .
good luck !

That looks good but you cant go wrong with basic black accented w/gold

IMHO that is just a little too much gold.

I remember seeing several black & gold examples when they were in fairly new condition. I like some of these combos in stock form with some tasteful wheels, etc. But even following stock form, you can used enhanced colors & designs, as many stock class show winners do.

As far as a higher up 2 tone job like your example, it works for Foose.

I hope to get the paint on mine this summer. Gotta buy a new roller handle yet.

Lots of great looking combos out there. Some times a side picture of the car that can be traced through some thin paper, then copied on good paper, cna be used to put some color combos on, can help to see & decide.

That's how I plane a design and colors on airplanes.

I'm a firm believer in having two cars, one should be original and the other a Hotwheel. So just buy another generation to keep original then go ape crazy on your current one.

Josh - it's going to look sharp. I like bringing a darker color over the side a little to make the belt line look a little thinner and the car a look a little lower. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks for all of the responses! I think I will take a look at it via trace paper as steelybill mentioned. I've done a few rederings in the past, but I'm just so on the fence with it. I just have seen very few with this color combo, so that's a consideration.

Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks again!

I did some renderings, and I think I'm going to go with the original look with the gold being in Saturn Gold Firemist and the black with Jet Black (Gloss). I kept thinking the gold color going up higher on the side would detract from the muscle car look I'm going for.

I am, however, considering doing that some gold color with a traditional SS stripe on the 2" cowl induction hood and not on the sides at all.
