I live in ca. the land of the emision nazi.

My '85 El Camino failed the smog test. So instead of taking to the local
"Bend over and take it. joint " My dad and i decided to do the work.
Well, after five of straight work. My Camino has new valve guide
dealies(guides?), new plugs, and new valve cover gaskets. the problem is she smokes more now thatn when we did the repair and i don't believe we tightened down the rockers enough or at least all of them enough. she's making this clicking noise from under the valve covers.

Any ideas or a thread i might have missed that would give me an idea about how badly i messed my car up and what i can do to fix it. :-D

Tough to say without hearing it. The best thing to do would be to buy a good vacume gauge and a Chiltons manual if you don't have one. The vacume gauge will give you a good idea of what kind of problems you are really having if it is your head that is screwed up. The Chiltons has a really good walkthrough for adjusting your valves properly. After that is taken care of, a more specific question would be much easier to answer.
