Default Electrical box under glove box?

I just purchased a 79 El Camino and wanted to ask about the electrical box under the glove box. Mine is wet due to a leak above it and now the car will not start. Is this a control for the ignition and are they available to purchase? Thanks

Welcome from Dallas.. Most likely that box is your computer.. Is it inside the kick panel? Is you leak heater core related?
And TBH, I dont believe the computer should stop your 79 from starting. Others can chime in on this...

Thanks for the reply. I am surprised that the car even has a computer! Car was running fine but I noticed water on the floor below glove box. Seems to be coming from cowl area. Anyway I pulled the kick panel and it was full of water. The ECM was also wet. I dried everything off, reinstalled the ECM and now can't get it to start. Can I bypass the ECM? Car has been re-engined with a 350. Thanks

All the computer stuff can be bypassed.. Does your state require smog checks?

I'm pretty sure '81 was the first computerized, it could be an aftermarket alarm. Post up a pic.

What I am finding out is that the 79 model had an ECM if it was sold in CA. Just my luck. No emissions requirement here so I am going to try and bypass the ECM. Thanks to all who replied!
