Thumbs up Latest Update.........

Visited with Steve this morning

Journal entry by Patty Gilbreath — 2/20/2017 : Steve is doing great. He is putting every bit of energy he has into his therapy sessions. I stayed to have lunch with him and he is eating so much better. I think he would have finished everything on his plate if it weren't for occupational therapy coming to get him for his last session of the day. His therapies are different hours each day so it is difficult to know what time he will be in his room. But they do welcome guests into the gym so if he isn't in his room he is most likely in the gym. His speech therapist told him that they are going to try a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries tomorrow. Steve is soooo excited. I hope he does well so they can change his diet. Three weeks of liquids and ground up everything can get to a person after awhile. And, depending on the weather, I am hoping to take Charlie, our pit bull and his favorite, up to the hospital to see him. She misses him so much. I worry that when I go to visit him that she will try to get out of the back yard but that hasn't happened yet. We have really good neighbors and they know when the truck is gone to keep an eye on the dogs. If they get out they told me that they will put them back into our yard. We have so many friends and we are so glad to have each and every one of you.

Arrow Today's Update

New update today............................Ken
Journal entry by Patty Gilbreath 2/23/2017 @ 1:30 PM
Well, it has been a busy 3 days. My mom has been here and we spent the whole day yesterday with Steve. The medical team met yesterday morning and have decided to keep Steve an additional week. His new discharge date is March 14. This will allow the therapists to work more with him so that he is able to do most of the work himself and put less strain and lifting on me. They are aware of my bad back and are trying to accommodate me as much as possible. I cried when I first heard the news cause I miss having him here at home. But I know it is for the best.
This morning I took Charlie up to see him for about 15 minutes. Steve was so glad to see her and she was unsure about him being in the wheelchair. But I know all our dogs will be able to sense his injury and be cautious around him. I will be going back up to the hospital later today to spend more time. He is improving slowly, day by day, step by step. It is stressful on me to be up there as much as he wants me to but I make sure that I take time out for myself and spend time at home with our dogs too.

Arrow New Update 2/25/2017

Friday evening

Journal entry by Patty Gilbreath 16 hours ago
I spent the morning with Steve today. He didn't sleep well last night and was exhausted. He had speech therapy at 10:30am. He had a difficult time concentrating on the instructions. Lunch came around noon and he tried to take a quick nap before his occupational therapy at 1:00pm. He was resting so good it disappointed me a little when they came to wake him and take him to therapy. He completed all his therapy by 4:00pm. I have been trying to call him but there is no answer. I am hoping everything is okay. Perhaps he is sleeping finally. But he has a two day break from therapy and then starts all over again on Monday. I will start my training then also. They informed me that they will be giving him a 6 hour pass to come home the weekend of March 4th and 5th. This will be a test to see how well I can handle him on my own.
Today my neighbor started working on the ramp up to the front door. He will be tearing down the wooden rail that is about to fall down and place a pole so that Steve can help me roll him up the ramp with his right hand.
There is still no movement in his left leg and left arm. He keeps telling me that they will never let him come home. I am worried about his mental state but this is all normal for all he has been through. But he says he will not quit and that is a good sign.
Please keep the prayers coming. We appreciate everyone's well wishes and donations.

Exclamation Thanks to ALL................

Thanks to ALL for the thoughts, prayers, and contributions for Steve and Patty. The contributions are, among other things, helping to ensure necessary changes can be made around the house before Steve can return home. Things like a ramp needing built for Steve's wheelchair, a "lift" chair to assist in standing, grab bars at any location where Steve will need assistance in moving from a sitting or lying position, and other changes needed with consideration of his present physical limitations. Unless you really start thinking and researching the now-necessary life-style changes they are facing, it's easy to say "It's great that Steve will be home soon, and all will be back to normal". But it's not nearly that simple. "Normal" is going to take some time! And until that happens, Steve & Patty need our help in regaining as much "normalcy" as can be mustered under the conditions they find themselves in. Thoughts help, prayers of course - but funding is needed to cover those medically necessary items that Medicaid just does not pay for. The list of things medically and physically necessary is long, and Medicaid can be very contrary, but living space improvements MUST happen before Steve can be allowed to go home. Help if you can - it is needed and I promise it will be used judiciously AND greatly appreciated. Please go to: https://www.gofundme.com/steve-patty-need-assistance
to help them out..............Ken Rogers

What about a wheelchair? Do they have one. If not, I do. Maybe I can figure a way to get it to them if needed. ??
