Question American V8 sound

Finally, after 5 years building, I'm ready to have the duel exaust system installed on my 81 Elky. My question to you guys is....which mufflers sound best???? The last time I built a motor Carter was president and glass packs were the only way to go....
Now, you have Magaflow, Thrush, Flowmaster, and a world of others. I'm interested in your opinion....

ETC Mick

I have "Hush" Thrush on my torino conv. They have a faint mellow sound but not overwhelming for a conv with the top down.
On my 78 elky 350 I have series 40 flowmasters on 2 1/2 duals and no cat. Much louder and I love the sound. Don't know about magnaflow. I'm sure I've probably heard them just didn't know what they were.

Yeah they do sound the best but depending on where you are and where you go, you'll probably get a ticket.

You want deep and loud = Flow 40's, you want deep, not too loud, but healthy rumble= Hooker AeroChambers. The Hookers also outflow the Flows, I like them. Just not as loud as Flows.

I just installed a 2 1/2 inch PYPES stainless system from summit. It sounds fairly quite at idle but really picks up at higher rpms. And at just over $300.00 its hard to beat a stainless duel system that includes a X pipe and the mufflers. The only problem I found was that the kit did not come with header reducers and that they needed to have a 18" extension. Good luck. Mike
