Post kat0069's '87 El Camino

Hello all, I'm working on a 1987 Chevrolet El Camino, 305 and TH200 4R with split bench and power convenience options and A/C when I found it in SoCal.
New engine: GM Performance L31-R long block, changing the GM vortec heads for PoMaxx iron vortec (upgraded for .600 lift), replacing the truck cam with TPiS ZZ-409, replacing the stamped steel rockers for full roller 1.5's, Edelbrock Performer EPS, FAST EZ EFI 2.0, Aeromotive Phantom stealth 340 for the fueling and Fast Dual Sync / FAST E6 / E92 for the spark. Patriot Mid length headers (ceramic coated) Stainless Flowmaster American thunder duals with X pipe (for a MCSS modified to fit)
Transmission: Installing TKO 600 (close ratio), G Force double hump crossmember, Sick Speed MC g body hydraulic clutch set up. Undecided on the rear diff mods at this time (3.23 or 3.42 most likely, definately limited slip).
Suspension: For now I'm going with Eibach Pro kit and F-41 upgrades, Undecided about coilovers and tubular A arms / control arms.
Exterior: Line-X'ed the bed, installed Goodmark 2" cowl hood, painting it PPG rattlesnake or HOK rootbeer candy....Undecided. Probably keeping the GM IROC wheels.
Interior: installing Recaro Specialist M seats when it comes back from the Jim's Rod Shop. Plan on custom center console, going with black and tan interior (loosing the factory burgundy).
Electrics: Dakota Digital VHX blue / silver with cruise, GPS speedo, outside temp. Installing remote door locks, Alpine 7" double DIN (moding the radio bezel) and Sundown audio 8" and 12" in a custom box.

I'm planning on this being a nice cruiser / daily driver type car so decent fuel mileage would be nice, at the same time though, a car that will keep up with and out perform some of the newer cars would be great...hopefully I've picked a balance of parts to get it somewhere in the middle of the two. And I'm sure thee will be a few changes and additions along the way....such as engine cooling, accesory drive, which is still undecided.

I'm usually either stuck working (traveling construction) and have NO time or at home and have limited funds....I've dropped the El Camino off at Jim's Rod Shop in Yuma the link for my car at his shop is http://www.jimsrodshop.net/Taylor_19...ElCamino__.htm.

This is a link to my Public Dropbox for a few Pics,

Please enjoy, and comments are welcome.

@ old goat

Thanks!
I'm diggin' the 2 tone, I thought about a lighter colored top on mine, maybe with some "ghost" lace or something subtle. But I'm undecided.....

@ xlcjoe

Thanks!
I really like the C6 'Vette, I think that will be the next car in my garage....as soon as I can trade out of this god awful Cayenne Turbo S.....what a maintenance nightmare.

@ Judge Mills

Thanks, I was real torn about the trans. The older guy I am wants the auto...but the kid in me screamed that it was insane not to go with the Tremec. I prefer to do most of my own wrenching but I'm never home and it took me 3 years to install bucket seats, a floor shifter and headers......so I had to outsource just to get something done.

Looks like you've made good inroads with your ride, looks good.

I'm about in the same boat! Two kids keep me on my toes, plus work. Most of my wrenching goes on after 10 PM!

Any thoughts on a rear differential that's good for around 350-375 WHP with a stick? All I seem to find are F**d 9".....just doesn't seem right, but if that's all I find I guess it's better than wasting 2k or more on a 7.5" 10 bolt. And I don't really like the idea of paying 1k for an 8.5" then 2k on beefing it either.

If you are looking for good gas mileage I would go with a 3.08 are the 3.23. I have a 3.41 in my 87 with a 700R4 and at 70 the RPM,s are higher than what I would like.
