Default One very fast Elky

This is an amazing video. I have never seen a Elky on the race track. This is not a drag race, this requires brakes and suspension.

Check out this link

Amazing Elky video

My Elky is nothing like this. The biggest reason I have my other car is for track time like this. It is the most fun one can have in a car with your clothes on.

Not to be mr. negative. But the only reason the el camino caught the elise is because of the traffic in front. I've owned an elise and you can not get a car the size of a elky to ever handle like the lotus. Now my elky could catch my elise in a flat out drag race every time. But when it came to handling.....no way.
I've owned both but I only have the elky left, so you know were my allegiance is. I do miss the elise though.

The better handing car is the lotus for sure but I just loved the way the air pot was working the cowl induction hood. hp wise the elky could catch the 4cyl elise, but in a corner no way.....Gran Turismo 4...LOL

Naturally it's always good to see an Elky running well on a track. To be accurate though, it didn't look like the Lotus driver was even trying in the turns plus the traffic as Bryan pointed out. He's an amateur like the Elky driver.

The Elky was driving terribly and didn't even have his safety equipment on. He maintained a bad line, chopped the apexes early and braked too early forcing him to not accelerate until leaving each turn. He'd do well to get some training.

Take care.

I do not agree---I believe there were just enough straights for the chevy to get the job done the interference by traffic might have caused the pass to happen a little further down the straight but he was being reeled in all way round the course ---distance separating them is not the big deal its time ---notice that the time for it to turn vs the times the chevy turns gets shorter and shorter----something tells me that was not a bone stock suspension under the old chevy though...............still it looked like a fun thing .............Dan

Critical racing observations aside, I just loved the sight and sound of it.

Shots like that whether amateurs, Indy or Formula 1, ALWAYS get my blood to pumping like a jackhammer.

Thx for posting the video.

(Nice to know it was a 70. That does me some good too!!)

Not at all. I stand by my original statement. You will never get an el camino to handle like an elise. That's one damn nice elky and I would pick it over a lotus any day. I've had an elise. They are all about handling but that's about it for them. My elise could almost out handle my dads F40 and that is very thought to do.

I am in no way degrading the el camino. Just stating facts as I know them. I am also in love with that elky.

Don't know who you're referring to Jimbob "feel a little foolish", but as a new member of this, or any, forum, let me give you some good advice.

ALWAYS, separate the topic of discussion from personal insults and innuendo. This is a friendly site and members disagree often, and we do it without inferring someone should feel foolish, talking about their mothers, or even their pet goldfish.

Always feel free to express your personal opinions whether substantiated or not. They will be respected, but I assure you it is best not to insult the folks on this forum. They are not defenseless and to do so serves no good purpose.

By the way, Welcome to the best Camino site on the net - period.

Take care.

I would feel foolish joining a elcamino board with a name like "letmehelpyouout" and then posting nonsense about members here feeling foolish. Soo, let me help you out... A Elise with a decent driver will whoop that camino up and down all day long at BIR and to think otherwise is foolish. You have a nice elcamino thats a good cruiser. As for drag racing its mediocre at best, and on a road course it will never hang with the lightweight huggers. Its a good high performance cruiser/street racer so enjoy it for what it is, but take a pill as its hardly the best thing since sliced bread.

I will be at BIR almost every weekend this year. I hope we can line our cars up someday as it would be nice to see 2 caminos race at BIR.

Well now lets not give the impression drag cars dont require state of the art suspensions and brakes. Try putting a thousand HP down to the ground then 9.x seconds later stopping the car from 149 mph before you hit the sand (150 requires a chute). Just the double adjustable coilovers on a decent drag car would cost more than that cars entire front end suspension. Drag cars demand incredible suspension setups and brakes.
