Default Ethanol and your Classic

This link has about a 5 minute video showing some of the damage caused by ethanol in our beloved classic Elkys.

I see a lot of the same stuff shown here on the ones I work on.

The first I heard about ethanol damage was in Boating Magazine, when ethanol first was used in marine engines. Seems like it was even worse in boats. Some engines were trashed when valves stuck/bent etc, and older generation fiberglass fuel tanks started delaminating inside. Seems like the older resins were affected by ethanol, and fuel filters also had problems.

I use Stabil in everything that's going set over the winter in storage, and so far, no problems. I also add some Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas in the tank for winter.

My Mailbu hasn't been on the road in three years, but I tear around the local airport with it, to keep running fuel through the system, and add some avgas now & then....

Don't know if everyone knows it, but ethanol producers are subsidized with our tax money, so we have to pay to get things screwed up by the gas we buy. !!

Thanks for the link. We have a local station that was selling supposedly ethanol free gasoline until it closed. Makes you wonder.

From what I've heard around here, this state mandated ethanol gas to be used here. Is that possible & legal ? just wondered......

I believe it's a national thing. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 from the Environmental Protection Agency is supposed to contain regulations which requires gasoline to contain some minimum amount of renewable fuel (such as ethanol).

No, but when was the last time any bill or regulation was questioned as being legal?

Yeah, let's question it, and see how far we get.
