those are different looking numbers on that cam. 8hp is a good gain using the same lift or kinda the same but i cant see spending twice the money for the cam for the power gained

...NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Camshaft specs are my kryptonite!!

I seriously need to take a class or something so i can learn how to understand cam specs and what they mean, and how to "read" a cam, and what its strengths and weaknesses are, rpm range, etc etc. I have yet to do some serious reading on the topic, because i haven't come to swapping my cam out.....yet. But i really want to research it so i finally understand all the specs and what they mean.

Anyone in the know willing to start an in-depth, detailed, overly schematic-filled thread on that very specific topic?

...Wait! Done! Check out the new thread "WHAT ARE CAMSHAFT SPECS?" (that i TECHNICALLY haven't created yet as i'm writing this, but by the time you read this, it WILL be in existence......please feel free to go there and enlighten us on this voo-doo, black magic that is "the camshaft"

The cams appear to be optimized for single plane intakes. If I am not mistaken, Dual plane intakes already account for this difference in runner length by running the inside two cylinders from the opposite side of the carb mount and the outside cylinders from the near side of the carb mount.

At least that's what I see. I'm a little suprize they didn't specify in their write-up.

that engine they tested on it on was a pretty bad build to only have a lil under 450hp, with such big runners.

its the cam for those that want that extra .01 sec on the 1/4 mile

In the old days, guys would say " yeah, it's got a 3/4 cam in it !" they didn't have a clue what that meant, and it's meaningless description now.

The cams mentioned are retro-fit rollers, which aren't cheap anyway.

Comp Cams is always fooling around with lobe shapes, so this is just another idea ! Anyone here old enough to remember the Isky " 5-cycle" cams for dragsters ?? Usually for Hemi Chryslers in the late 50s.

I think the most important thing to look for in a cam , is where the horsepower is made. If you are usually using your vehicle as a street driver then you want a cam that is making its power from idle to around 5000 rpm. This will give stop light to stop light power.

the perfect motor 350cu.9:1 compression slight port, job cam was a mimic of the early Z-28 model, headmen headers into 2-1/4 stainless pipes edelbrock dual plane with a 500cfm carb.....enough power to light the tires and still get 18mpg and still met ill smog laws !!
made power from idle to 5,000 rpm enough for the street
