Default WANTED: 1984 GMC Caballero TRANSMISSION

Greetings fellow forum members,

I'm looking for a drop in replacement transmission for my 1984 GMC Caballero Amarillo.

My car has the stock O.E.M. 305ci V-8.

I am looking for a 100% reliable transmission that will bolt up with out mods (big ones any way - nothing bigger than relocating a cross-member).

I'm in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale so unless your in Florida it will have to be shipped.

Let me know what you have.

Reliability is the paramount concern.

Best regards,

Fiftysixer

Have you taken a look at the th350 offerings from jegs or summit? It should be bullet proof behind your 305, considering there's some people out there running them behind some hot small blocks.

I just pulled the TH250c out of my 84 Elky. Came stock with a 305. I am replacing it with a th2004r overdrive that I got from HKD'UP 87. The TH250c is in excellent condition with no issues. I am not sure if it has ever been rebuilt as I have only had the car a year. Again, shifts excellent as is and no issues. I serviced it about 4000 miles ago. If you want it, $200.00 plus what ever it takes to ship it to you. HKD'UP87 Robert can probably ship it to ya cheap. He lives down the road a ways from me. PM if you want it.

Thanks to all those who replied to my request here.

After doing a lot of reading it looks like I am going to go with a 200-4R myself.

I need the new cross-member that is supposed to work with this and goes 6.5" farther back on my car. Any leads on that would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Fiftysixer

if you have a stock rear end I heard a over drive 4 speed (3 speed with OD ex 2004r, 700r4 ect) will actually hurt gas milage personally idk I have a th350 that was rebuilt with a 2300stall converter with a shift kit and that olds up great with a built 350 nd I didn't need a different driveshaft or crossmember where a 2004r will need a shorter driveshaft...I got mine th350 shift kit and full rebuild and a better torque converter done for $300

I went from 200c to 2004r and the driveshaft is fine as is. Doesn't need to be shorten.
