Default Carb trouble

Well, attempted to install the new distributor and holley this past weekend. The holley spit fuel out of every spot that didn't have a gasket (throttle shafts etc). Threw the stock qjet and distributor back on. Once i got it to start it ran fine. Til about halfway through my shift last night. Started to sound like it had a real lopey cam. Then when I pulled to a stop it would sputter out and die. Would turn over for 20-30 seconds before starting back up. Checked the carb and it appears that the qjet has begun to leak. That or it was wet from the rainy weather. When it died it did sound like it was running out of gas. Can a repair shop get a replacement?

I been trying to fix my Q-J with the same problem. I'm done no more trying I have a new rebuilt one on the way from Mountain Man Fuel Systems he's one of the best $205.00. You will spend that much replacing the switches and rebuild kit. Lots of members use them.

I have learned to never characterize any of my cars as fixed....they are just temporarily between malfunctions. .....Dan ( old_coot)

Let me see I got mine working pretty good if they don't ask for mine back as a core charge I will give it to you.I did it on Ebay and it didn't say I had to return mine so I should have it here in a couple of days. If they charge like a $40.00 core charge you can give me that and you have a carb. if you want to do that? I don't care.

I think I read that they include a return label for the core. But if not then I just might take you up on that offer. Would certainly get me back on the road at work faster. Its the computer controlled one right? Mines an E4ME. Thats works for me.

I know they charge $45 core for international customers but might be more might be less for the states. And that would definitely help me out.

Also if yours is leaking look here maybe tighten the star screws around the top of the carb. there's about 12 screws here's a service bul. Hey helping is the way we all should be. I have been helped many times here and I pay it forward every chance I can.

That was the first thing I checked. But the gasket under the airhorn is falling apart and the gasket between the main body and baseplate is brown and looks spongy. Not to mention the rear of the airhorn on mine is warped. The guy I bought it from was kinda shady. Rebuilds them in an old run down building, has carbs all over the place. And it has always run rich from day one.

I have a extra new air horn gasket and a good base gasket for the manifold to carb. If that's what you need and a extra TPS switch or two new. If you think that's the problem I can ship those no charge today if so pm me your address.

If the airhorn wasnt warped and cracked Id take that offer. I think it was something the guy did when he rebuilt it. Ive tried adjusting the idle mix screws, tried a carb spacer (which helped with getting all the fuel into the cylinder and not leaving any in the intake), even had the MCS and TPS checked. Dont remember evact values but they were pretty close to stock. I'm thinking it was the paint he used on it, cause the first time I went to clean it up, it started flaking off.

Fuel filter is only maybe a few thousands miles old. I will try to get it to the store for a new one. But as far as I saw yesterday it was leaking fuel from most of the gaskets.
