im having trouble understanding my car. all the parts seem to match up with the 72 when mine is a 73. is it possible that i could have an early year and all the main panels are from a 72. cuz currently i am in need of a bed for it and cant find anything for a 73 but plenty for a 72. so would a 72 bed fit in mine and is there a chance i just have an early make car that has all 72 parts.

I know I have a 73 I have all the original papers and everything but all the beds for a 73 I find are a 3, piece bed mine is only a two and the 72 bed looks to have the same set up on the bottom as far as monting and fuel tank goes. Is there any way at all a mine could have a 72's bed? Or will one fit?

The '73 model year brought about major changes in the "A" body GM vehicles, so there's virtually no interchangeability with '72 and earlier. I've been in the retail automotive biz since the mid 70's in PA and had seen numerous cases where a vehicle title is labelled with the year of original sale rather than the automaker's model year. Pics would tell for sure or you can decode your VIN. The sixth digit, IIRC, is your year indicator; A "2" indicates 1972, "3" for 1973 and so forth.

The '73, first year of fourth generation, has a flat nose with a rectangular grid in the grill. The '72 has what I call the W front end. You gotta check the VIN under the windshield and the title.
1973 ![]() 1972 ![]() I tried to find ones with the same view orientation.

About all you can see from my profile pic is the bed, but it's definitely a '73 - I have all the rest of the parts, but am making a major project out of this one. I'll add a few more pics if this helps

Hey thanks and yea im pretty sure I have a 73 title says it and everything but is it possible that the bed from the 72 could fit or are they two different? I didn't know if I got an early year 73 and it had a mis match of parts? Possible at all?

As far as I know, no late run/left over 72s were sold as 73s. (or early run 73s being 3rd gen body style.)
I cant imagine someone grafting a 3rd gen bed onto a 4th gen. Bodies are completely different as to width, length and body lines. You should probably check body and frame VINs to make sure they match title. Your facebook pic doesnt show up for me.

The lack of repair parts for the 73 motivates your idea. I can imagine a 1972 1/2, as you find parts and mod them to work.
What you need is a donor 73 parts car.
