Default Just installed my new recon. Q-J from Mt. Man

Installed the replacement Q-J and it looks like I'm back. I don't want to jinx it so let's say .

I mentioned to Ted about the TPS and to make sure it was set at .48v but when I checked it was set at .70v Maybe that's factory but my Haynes book shows .48v so I reset it and at WOT I'm reading 4v and I have to look back to see but I thought it should be 4.5 at WOT . SET THE IDLE AT 800 RPM'S IN PARK AND WHEN IT'S LIGHT OUT TOMORROW I WILL PUT THE TIMING LIGHT AND VACUUM GAUGE ON AND GO FROM THERE. Sorry for the CAPS I wasn't looking and tired so

I have learned to never characterize any of my cars as fixed....they are just temporarily between malfunctions. .....Dan ( old_coot)

Had to have a cold one or two. I had a 1/2 after work to swap carb's . I can't wait for the spring but if you have any rain send it down.

I know you are smart enough to check this, but in case someone else is reading...
When you checked the TPS, was the carb cold? Could the choke have been on a higher idle step?

I'm good at.48 hot. I need to check all my vacuum line connections at the EFE, check valves etc. I'm plugged into the carb. correct but everything has been in and out I need to check before I time it. I'm not touching the carb NO MASS!!! It's idling off a little the tach is bouncing in park 800-801-799 but driving it's perfect all motor no problem . I had most of the emissions off but I put it back before the carb.

I don't have a exhaust heat valve or riser with the headers so the vacuum line from that to the coolant temp. sensor vacuum port I plugged the bottom port and I think I need something there for the EGR. VACUUM????

I HAVE THE DIAGRAM.

Got the wrinkles out and she is running good. I have the timing set a 8 BTDC , TPS at .48v and at WOT 4.33V, RPM'S in park 620 and 520 in gear with foot on break. it holds the RPM'S steady and acceleration is great. Now let's see if it holds. I'm very happy and on to the next project. Complete front end rebuild.

This should be a fun one.

Hey Robert,
My 84 runs excellent and I have the timing at 10* BTDC. You might try that. It might smooth out the idle.
