why is it so hard to sell a car?? seems all i get is offers to buy it and they all want to use paypal,,,seems fishy to me,,as all are out of my area,,,although i do have my wagon listed in several places but offers to buy it with the condition of deducting the shipping fees and sending that portion of the transfer back seem odd,,,,, is it just me
does anyone have any tips on using paypal without being worried of getting rippped off
i would not spend 4 grand on a car sight unseen or have someone go look at it for me
thanks for any info. Woody31 out

If it seems like it, it is. If they do not come in person with either cash, or a check, and the check clears before the title is transfered, then tell em to take a hike. Too many people out looking to scam these days. I do not use paypal, nor will I.

Hey Woody I use paypal all the time, I have not had any problems at all. It is fairly easy to set up. You can send people money with out any fees if you check ( this is a gift). I have bought a lot of parts from people off of this forum. I boutj my Solstice unseen for 7000.00, no problem.
Go and get on the paypal web site and read up on it for your seft.

Paypal is a great service...Have used it 100's of times, but never for something like a car.

Paypal is like an escrow company...the money goes through them so that no banking information is transfered. If you are new, they may hold the funds for as long as 20 days to make sure both parties perform...That would not be a good idea, as with a car it could be parted out by then...

I always Buy & Sell with $100 Bills...and expect everyone else to do the same!
Don't like Craigs List, every Nut Job on the planet seems to be on that one...

Paypal works fine for me. I've never had any problems using it.

Keep away from a wire transfer when making a purchase, though.

Paypal isnt a problem, I dont use it much but never had a problem.

Its when you get a reply that asks if your 'item' is still for sale or I'm buying this for my son and I am out of the country/working offshore that you know its a scam.

They arent going to deposit any money they just want your info. Dont reply to those emails.

I always list ads that say "reply by email with a valid phone # and I will call you. Replies without a valid number will be deleted as spam".

That way even if it is a real reply but doesnt have a phone number, if they're to dumb to follow instructions, they're to dumb to own what I'm selling.

I posted a car on Craigslist and somebody offered me more than what I was asking. He asked for my Paypal info so he could transfer the money and in the meantime one of his "Associates" would come by and pick it up for him.
CL says don't use paypal or money transfers and I'm finally old enough to listen. He never responded when I told him that so 3 hours later the next caller showed up with 43 $100 bills and drove off with a nice buick.

Just curious, what do you have against a wire transfer?
I work for a Chevrolet dealer who does quite a few specialty cars, such as Corvettes and Camaros. Our policy is to use a wire transfer on all out-of-state transactions if we're not financing the vehicle in house. We've done thousands this way without a problem. If you've had a bad deal or scam using a bank wire transfer, I'd like to hear some details.
Thanks,

Bill

I use wire transfers occasionally as well and I'm not sure how you could fool that one. You just don't release the item until the funds show up in your account.
As soon as they start the pay more than asking and you send some back - RUN!

I wouldn't have a problem receiving money as a gift but I'd never pay for something and use that feature unless I know that person and completely trust them. If you use the gift feature and you don't receive your item you get no help from PayPal to recoupe funds.
