Default 1985 SS Info

I just purchase an 85 SS from a deceased family member. He had it since 1990. It has the Z15 option code and says Super Sport on the glove box. Can someone direct me to where I can find the rest of the codes? Also can anyone tell me what made this car an SS in 85?

I will get some pics of it in the future. I wondered if the 85 had the Monte SS front end on it as an option? I guess they called that a Choo Choo Conversion. I thought the car had that in its early years however I know the front end had to be replaced at least twice for deer collisions.

The SS option and the Choo Choo Customs option were totally separate items. The SS option was just an appearance option, and came from the factory. If your car was a ChooChoo Customs, it should still have the ChooChoo Customs label on the driver's door jamb.

Several Choo Choo conversions were actually done to straight El Caminos... actually only a few were on ones that were factory delivered Super Sports. The only way you can really tell if you have a Z15 SS without the window sticker or trim code sticker (it's probably inside the glove box if it's still there) is to contact the GM Historical Archives and order the invoice for your vehicle. There are a few threads already on here if you do a search. Good luck!

Default 1985 SS info

There is no RPO code for a El Camino Choo Choo Custom. This was a dealer option and ordered as such. The vehicle invoice from GM would list all the RPO codes for the model El Camino ordered. Under those codes would be a notation; Ship to Choo Choo Customs and the additional cost ($1770.00 in 1987). After conversion completion CCC would place a recertified decal on the drivers side door jam.The decal stated when the conversion was completed (Month/year); the sequential build number; and the last 6 digits of the VIN.

Matt, try this. Go to Google; enter el camino rpo codes under search info; click on entry posted by GbodyCentral (1978 - 1987 El Camino RPO codes). Posting should be a thread by Poltergeist. All gen 5 rpo codes listed by year.

While you are on this site you can check out my El Camino. click on G body garage (2nd blue toolbar), then click on Browse (3rd toolbar), then click on page 2, scroll down to owner 83withzz4. I have 39 pictures of my EC and some of it's many modifications.
