Default New 2004r Tranny

Drove my 84 ELKY today for the first time with the new overdrive tranny. It is awesome! Has a mild shift kit and shifts are nice and positive but not overly aggressive. Downshifts are hardly noticeable. She hits 4th at about 50mph. I like the fact that it revs higher between shifts than the old 250c did. That old tranny almost immediately shifted into second gear. not allowing the motor to start making power. I really notice the deficiency of the stock brakes now as this tranny in overdrive has less rolling resistance. I got 12 mpg before. It will be interesting to see how much improvement. The crossmember had to be modified a little but the drive shaft bolted right up. It has a two year unlimited mileage warranty. Cruising 80 mph is no problem now!

I have learned to never characterize any of my cars as fixed....they are just temporarily between malfunctions. .....Dan ( old_coot)

My 1980 el camino came with a 2004r when my son and I bought it. The speedometer does not work and I found out the driven gears are broken. The car came with a brown 26 tooth gear with a metal stem. After looking around found the part number is GM 25502669 but have not been able to find it anywhere. Any suggestions where I could buy it? Or could I replace it with something else? Not sure what size rear differential I have but the car still has the stock 14" inch tires so I believe its stock. Thanks

I just gave the part number to my supplier to cross reference it to an aftermarket number. He may have it. I'll know in a little while and let you know ASAP.

RTT, You'll really love that trans when you pass the gas pumps ! I love mine and wondered what shift kit you're using ? I'm using a B&H lockup kit thats variable from 30-90 mph, they say, but keep it at about 45-48 mph . What rear end gear are you running ? WP

I used to be a Transgo only guy. Then another builder I know talked me into running a Superior kit in a 4R70W Ford trans in an F150. I was impressed and now use both Transgo and Superior. I have a Superior kit in my 2004R and love it. I'm sure you'll be happy with yours for a long time!
