Default 1970 AMC Cowboy Pickup?

1970 AMC Cowboy pickup, rare! - $3000 (Lewisville, TX)

Very rare 1970 AMC cowboy pickup, much like an el camino or ranchero of that time period, has 6cyl with 4 speed transmission and factory air conditioning, truck was originally red, painted in the mid 80's in a trans am paint scheme, wiht camaro/trans am scoop added to hood, have clear Texas title, asking $3,000 obo, would trade for miata, wrangler, falcon, comet or maverick

Being it's NOT a factory OE truck and just a butcher job the way it appears, I'd say it's about worthless. But, if it was indeed the 1 and only prototype AMC Cowboy Pick Up, I'd say it would be worth some big bucks.
Still a bit interesting though just for the Automotive History. Here's a bit of info on the Wiki about this once thought about concept to compete with small Foreign trucks in the 70's.

In the early 1970s, AMC was planning a compact coupé utility (pickup) based on the Hornet to compete with the increasing sales of Japanese compact pickup models.[84] A prototype called the Cowboy was developed under the leadership of Jim Alexander.[85] The prototype vehicle featured a modified AMC Gremlin front design and a cargo box with a Jeep logo on the tailgate. The standard I6 engine would be more powerful than the 4-cylinders found in the imported pickups. The only surviving prototype was built using a 1971 Hornet SC360 with the 360 V8 and 4-speed manual transmission. It was used by AMC on their proving grounds for several years before being sold to an employee, who later installed a 1973 Hornet updated front end.[85] However, with the increasing sales of the Hornet models, and the 1970 acquisition of Jeep and no 4WD option ready for the Cowboy (at the time ALL Jeeps were 4WD), AMC's product planners shelved the Cowboy truck program.[86] It is interesting to note that a 4WD system was developed and later used on the 1980 AMC Eagle, and the "uniframe" construction ("frame" rails under the truck bed made of folded sheet metal and incorporated into the cab structure as one piece) resurfaced for the 1985 Jeep Commanche pickup, based on the unit body XJ Cherokee.

Me and a few guys got to talking about 4x4 car mods not long ago about how they usually look stupid, like the Cads, Camino's and Chrysler Cordovas I've actually seen done. Then it came up about the 4x4 Hornet. That discussion jogged my memory about a neighbor we had that drove a 4x4 Hornet wagon. I hated those cars for being so ugly and parts from all auto makers. But now, I wouldn't mind having a sharp looking 4x4 Hornet. I did find a pic of one. I'd drive this thing, and I don't think I'd even have to wear a bag over my head. I actually think I could do it and like it. Again, I've always disliked AMC. But now it's just nostalgia and auto history for me.

I'll look around and see if I can find the pic. As of now, not sure where I saved it.

Not the prototype, since it has the straight six.

Looks like it could turn into a fairly good looking hot rod actually. Might be difficult to keep original, I never seen or heard of these, parts are probably scarce, or pricey if you did find them.

Finding parts would just be a matter of searching the big three parts look up as AMC never built anything with their own pieces. They were all a mishmash of Ford/Mopar and GM stuff.
I worked in Auto parts in late 90s and found Jeep was the same way up til Chrysler bought em up in late 80s or so. Frustrating going through 3 or 4 catalogues for stuff like axle seals, bearing and gaskets.
