Vehicle Name 1948 Pontiac Fire Truck
Year 1948
Make Murray
Model 48 Pontiac Fire Truck
Color Roman Red
1948 Murray Pontiac Fire Truck
History I acquired this in mid 1984 at the Pomona automotive swap meet. The truck had previously been added to a children's ride in the Big Bear Mountain California area that towed connected cars through a track. After being removed from the ride, someone had backed a vehicle into the truck, crushing one side.
Exterior
Extensive body work to straighten the caved in side.

1962 Corvette Roman Red with 1962 Corvette Ermine White. Rinshed-Mason R-M acrylic enamel paint sprayed on body, wheels, bumpers and trim pieces.
Hand color sanded with 800 grit and then rubbed out by hand with multiple grades of finishing compound.

Interior
1948 Murray Fire Truck Merrythought bear Avanti dalmation puppies
The bear who drives the Fire Truck is a limited Edition Merrythought bear from Shropshire England. He is just about half as old as the truck. His two Dalmation pups are by Avanti from 1985.

Drivetrain
The pedal mechanisms were removed prior to adding the Fire Truck to the Big Bear ride.

Under the Hood
In Palm Beach in 2011, a restored version of this 1948 Pontiac Peddle Fire Truck sold at Barret-Jackson auctions.

Suspension
1948 pedal car fire truck oak ladders
I made custom oak ladders in 1984.
It looks like the one that sold in 2011 at the B-J auction had 4 rungs. Mine are built with 5 rungs.

Wheel and Tire
Pedal car replacement wheels
The original Murray rims and tires were replaced with stronger wheels with bearings to handle the rigors of the ride.
