86 with Sport Decor Package

I bought this Truck in 2000 from a older guy here in Virginia that used a walker,
and between him and his wife had 6 vehicles with the El Camino being the oldest.

He wanted $3000 for the truck, and it was in..., "OK" condition.
I had $1500 in my savings, and that's all I had to purchase it with.

After a bit of back and forth haggling, we couldn't come to an agreement.
All I could offer was $1500, and all he was giving was $500 off the original asking price of $3000.

So I said thanks and hopped in my car and started backing out his long driveway, as he hobbled back inside the house.
Just shortly after he walked in, I saw him walk back out his door with his walker in one hand and the other waving at me to come back....,
with his wife standing behind him.
Yeah...., you knew what that meant.

I'm guessing the wife convinced him to go ahead and sell it for $1500. All it ever did was sit on the side of their house not being used.

So I went and got a check from the bank to pay him and clear out our saving account.
Once my wife got home from her trip, and found out that I had cleared out our savings on a big ticket item without consulting her,
I was in the dog house for a while.
Truth be known...., I'd do it again in a heartbeat! : )

When I bought it, it had 80,000 miles on it. It's been a daily driver for me for the last 20 years.
I now have over 300,000 miles on the original 5.0L 305 and transmission.

While I love hearing the Rochester kick in, (sounds like the old skool Police interceptors back in the 70's)
It's no hot rod, with an anemic 145 ponies from a V8.

But you would think it is, because every dude with a challenger, charger, mustang, huge diesel 4x4's always wants to race me for some reason.

My kids tease me that they will bury me in my truck, and I say to them...,
the hell with that, do you know how much time and money I've put into this truck over the years?

Let someone else own it..... But not for $1500!! : )
