History
1971 El Camino SS 454-4bbl. 410HP and around 490lbft on torque. Motor is period correct, '73 454. Original rare factory color "Placer Gold" top and bottom. Most of these in Placer Gold had the black vinyl top. Transmission is a stock Turbo-Jet 350 which works well. Motor Top End rebuilt in 2002. The heads are cast iron oval port that had seats, guides and springs replaced, to accommodate today's unleaded fuels. New hydraulic cam and lifters with mild street grind. Timing chain and Cam gear replaced at the same time. The Cowl Induction hood, RPO ZL2, in 1971 was an option along with the Z15 SS Equipment option(Code letter 'L' on the Cowel Plate). It was only available with either the LS3/402 or LS5/454 engine. When you hit the throttle hard, internal vacuum drops and the cowl door opens to get more fresh air. This big block Roars! Rear axle code RUC0121(not posi), deciphered reads 3.31.1, 12 bolt LS5/454. Completely rebuilt underneath-Springs/Ball Joints/Tie rod and Bushings front and rear. Ceramic coated Hooker Headers, Edelbrock performer divided plenum intake and Edelbrock 750 carb. MSD Pro Ignition 6T PN 6400 and MSD Pro Distributor PN 8461 just installed 8/15/18. Starts right up. Power steering, Power disc brakes. Drives like today's new cars. Exhaust is Stainless Steel with Flowmaster mufflers all 2-1/2". Auto on floor, bucket seats, highly polished factory Placer Gold, black interior, and original factory tonneau cover. Factory AM radio and add on FM/8 track that all work well. Bed liner is sprayed in black. Original date coded '71 spare tire. This El Camino is a great cruiser and the 454 runs very strong.
