General Information

El Camino
Torch Red with Black hood stripes
Recently bought this truck (Feb 2015)from a gentleman who knew little about its history so neither do I. I do know that the paint and 'artwork' were done in 2010. The artist, 'Andy' signed his work.
1979 Chevrolet El Camino (Torch Red with Black hood stripes)

The truck was born with a 267 V8 (4.4) but now has a big block 454.
a/o 3/16 Engine completely rebuilt by Westside Perfomance and Machine in Houston. The Mountainman Quadrajet was tweaked/improved by Bills in Houston as well to match the higher HP output of the engine rebuild. Balanced, blueprinted roller cam, etc dynoed at 448.7 peak horsepower and 525 lb ft torque.
Stock but recovered black vinyl bench seat. New carpet and dash. New shoulder harnesses. Added a Cruiser console 'cause I needed cup holders for my b...err-coffee.
Added some carbon fiber vinyl to the dash to lower its boring coefficient. Also added some to the lower door panels to eliminate the funky carpet. Thanks to hotrodelco, I now have a tach where the clock once was.
It has a fiberglass cowl induction hood and a fiberglass bed cover. Bumpers are painted body color. Handpainted striping and a little art work on the bed cover.

It turns out that the beautiful torch red paint was merely lipstick on a pig. :-( So 'Mattie' got an extreme make-over.
a/o 3/16
Built 700r4 transmission. Corvette servo, shift kit and Sonnax sunshell.

28 spline Moser axels, 3.55:1 Yukon gears with posi-traction.
Air bags in the rear. Recently replaced stock front coil springs with heavier Moog springs to better support the BB. Unfortunately, it raised the front end by at least an inch and 'Mattie' lost his rake that I like. I plan to get that back by lowering the front or raising the back. One way or another.
Wheel and Tire
Old school 14" Cragars replaced with 15" polished Cragar SS wheels with spinner center caps. BF Goodrich WL tires are 215x60 front and 235x60 rear.

Check out my new spare wheel! I have a 'thing' about this old wheel. To me it represents the generousity and camaraderie of this group. I had been a member for about 2 weeks when I put out a 'looking for a Cragar SS' for my spare and got a response from Marcus (me7824)that he had one I could have. Wow! Then Tim (minoriderTim)volunteered to bring it to Belton. I was unable to make it to Belton so Ralph (hotrodelco) brought it home with him to Leakey and I picked it up there. It turned out to be a Cragar 'look alike' with a few scars and considerabe rust. A few hours and a couple of wire brushes and some paint and polish later I wouldn't trade it for a new Cragar. It has a story - a good story. Thanks guys.
