Parked in barn garage for 11+ years after owner died
History
Bought in CA by a woman that lived in Oregon towed to AL years ago. Last on the road 1984.
Our first 59 El Camino looked like it had a cinderblock dropped from a HWY over pass right through the windshield. It ran and drove great but it was rotted to the gills. It Was well beyond my body working skills. Sold it about 12 years ago to some one that was going to restore it right away. Last we heard it was still sitting in their back yard rotting away. We bought this one on Facebook Market place over in AL. It is much better shape body wise. Still mostly all original. Owner before last one started doing some body work on it but died and the truck sat in a barn since about 1984. Still had the original 283 in it. It is worn out so we installed a newer 350 i had. It has 3 on the floor. Replaced all the brakes except the drums and back plates. Master cylinder was replaced with a two reservoir type. Runs, drives and stops great. Now if we could just get any of the lights on the back to work. Have new light switch and fuse box assembly on order.

Looks like it will fairly easy to restore. I bit of body work from what I can see though. If you find you need any parts let me know. I have a few 59 only parts in the back yard that might help you out.

Without a doubt, the 59s with the fins are spectacular!
Very nice project a d it looks like it'll be road worthy soon.
What are your plans restoration wise? Looking for originality or restomod?
Engine is already a mod. If it were mine, I'd leave the patina alone...I'll bet that's factory paint on there now based on its history.

I am on hold on this project. The ELK is parked inside my best friends garage 27 miles from here. I was going over there and working on it every other day or so. BUT my friend and his daughter are deathly afraid of catching the virus and do not want anyone coming over right now. I wear a mask and gloves every where I go BUT it only takes a little bit and your in trouble. I bought a whole under the dash wiring harness so this should take care of the tail lights. Can't wait to get back to work on it. I plan on leaving the body mostly how it is. Except for the back right fender. Got to sand down some of that piled on putty.

My friend just had his next door neighbor come over and verify the serial number and check it for stolen trucks. The officer looked up the vin and it was on the road so long ago it does not even exist! I needed the verification paper to get a FL title for the car. All i had was a signed registration for the truck. Pending on weather i am hoping to go get the trk tomorrow. Take it right over to a local tire place and get my 4 wide white walls mounted. Then take a few photos and get some Grundy ins. Then tags. Still need to install the new wiring harness so i'll have tail lights and such. Can't wait.

Check out the "Blue Walls" Finally got our ELK out of Corona Virus Quarantine today. Took tires and wheels off it and hauled them over to Town & Country tire over in Live Oak, FL. They did a fine job of installing the 4 new 4" whitewalls on the rims. Went back home and re mounted the wheels back and took the ELK for a spin. WOW! Good to have our baby back home. Steve

Wow!! Looking gooood. I wonder where can I find the similar car?! You know guys, not so long ago I was looking for the ideas that can help me to earn and get a lot of money for such a car. However, a lil later, I've decided to ask myself how to buy instagram followers?? It would be a lil strange, but the universe has given me a great tip that led me to the source of it. A lil later, I've found a good source of Instagram sharings. It's a good turn for myself actually, so I'm glad that the universe can give anyone anything..

Turns out i am missing only one trim part. I need one door sill. I have one original on the car but i am missing the other. I bought a brand new pair of sills but i would rather have two originals. If you have one i would be interested in buying it or i will trade you my two brand new ones for it. The the car is very original (except for eng) I do have the complete original engine. Only other item i am missing is a radio. I live in N. Florida thank you Just had door panels made for my ELK. Steve

Rusty, I do have a trailer hitch that is designed for the 59 in my parts. You can have it for $25 plus what ever it takes to package and ship. If that is of interest I can send you a photo if you like.

Rusty. I also have the original door sill. It has patina and not shiny but solid. I also have a couple of radios out of the 59s. One is complete with face plate and knobs. I would sell these two items for $60 plus shipping of course. I am in California so, it might be pricey to send. Not sure.
