Default Racing stripe color ?

Hi everyone, just need opinions on what color to paint racing stripes on the hood on my 70. The car is a fathom blue, kind of a dark blue.I know most of these color elco"s paint white stripes, probably a factory standard .I am thinking about black stripes,to be a little different and not so "loud" as the white stripes. The car is a driver and not a show queen so i dont care about keeping it factory correct.Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated, thankyou!

I like white with blue, but the black would look sharp, too. Is your interior black? If so, itd look great with black stripes. (My 2c).

I'm guessing your thinking of matte black for the stripes, which would be cool.

what about ghosting in some stripes.

or another shade of blue racing stripes.

They forgot my stripes and didn't realize it until After painting the car . Looking at the paint job that was done I couldn't bring myself to cover up the paint with stripes.

I have a dark blue metallic 86 with silver comp stripes on hood & tailgate . I don't think Chevy put stripes on the hood unless it's a Choo Choo .

Take a picture of your car. Then open it in Paint on your computer and put the stripes on the car. That way you can see what it will look like ,With any color you like. Years ago, we used a
Poloroid picture and watercolor marker to do it.

If you're not concerned with 100 point originality, I'd say use a lighter blue (not baby blue). If you have a sample of the paint on it now, a good paint shop should be able to mix it lighter for you. To me, that would really stand out from the crowd...

Marty, I think the black stripes will look good. I have a white 70 SS and of course I had to paint mine black. If you are going to paint them yourself, make sure you buy the paint stencils from Ground Up. I see so many SS Elky hoods that the radius on the front of the stripes is really off. It makes the whole hood look bad.
