OK, here are directions for disassembly, assembly, and a diagram of an 85 el camino tilt column. The All Data program at my shop won't go older than 85 for steering columns in the chevy section. I suspect that they are very similar if not the same. I hope this helps you out. The diagram isn't the best quality, but is still helpful. The spring you need to get to is number 43 in the diagram. These instructions are for disassembly & assembly on the bench. To get to the spring, you don't need to pull the column out.
