Hi gentlemen,
Does anyone have a link to a 1 wire alternator conversion "how to" that will show me how to switch over my 1969 ElCO. Can I delete/remove the horn relay?

That stock 10DN system is one of the best. I'd really give it some thought. That connection at the voltage regulator needs taken apart and soldered to make the system charge better..

the 1wire will work, but just not as good..
a 3wire internal regulator alternator is the way to go,
or just a better solid-state external regulator for what you have now..
heres some, lots-a readin
Mad elec tech
.
the horn relay is the main power buss bar,, and youll still need a relay somewhere..
its a good place to get power for up-grades,
like the headlight relay up-grade, or elec fans or amps....
.
if you really got to..

Well I plan to do the dual Spal fan/ Dewitt Aluminum radiator upgrade and the head light relay upgrade and thus my 240 amp one wire upgrade. My alternator company "Quality Power" assures me that the newer 1 wire internal regulators are much improved and work flawlessly, so I am going with it.
I just need to delete the 4 wire relay and know what to do with the 4 wires that went to it. I hear you just connect the 2 inner wire together and then the 2 outer wires together. Correct?

NO! The outer and skip one. each way. In other words 1 to 3 and 2 to 4. Starting at either end - same thing. You won't have a charge indicator light with the 1 wire. Might want to add a voltmeter of some kind. You won't be using either of the two smaller wires that terminate at the original alternator.

you mean like this ??
GM Mega Amp
cause i'm not sure what that is..
not sure if a true 1wire alternator and a 1wire regulator is the same thang ??
it says
""Optional 1-wire regulator""
does that mean, just 1 charge wire connection on the alternator to the battery ??
[ might need a larger charge wire ]
.
and if its a true 1wire alternator, with no regulator connection needed,,
do you really need any of the other original wiring ??

going from a external reg to a internal reg,,
yes it will be needed.. a sense wire and excite wire..
.
maybe I aint had enuff coffee, yet...

YES AGAIN. 1 WIRE (4 GAUGE) JUST TO THE BATTERY. IT'S A TRUE 1 WIRE ALTERNATOR WITH A INTERNAL REG.

NOPE....NO EXCITE WIRE NEEDED

NECOA.... I called "QUALITY POWER" where I bought the alternator from and they said for a 1969 Chevelle or El Camino just connect the 2 outer wires together and do nothing with the 2 inner wires at the old regulator and I would be good. They said that connecting the 2 outer wires would keep everything connected for powering the car. Do you disagree?????And Why????

i'm still looking for a good, clear, easy, simple original wiring diagram..
.
so you don't need a Excite or Sense wire on the new Alternator...
so you don't need wires from term 3 and 4 on the regulator...

term 1 and 2 on the regulator are the original alternator connector wires,
.... that wont be used on the new alternator..
.
heres a read link

JJ.... I am just trying to figure out which two wires connected will keep the electrical system throughout the car. I have been told several times by alternator manufacturers it is the 2 outside wires.......hmmmmm. But yet 464 Elky says different??? hmmmmmmm

did you see the last link ??
1wire how to
.
if I was going from a external regulator to a 3wire internal regulator,
then I would do exactly what they say, that is the normal way to do it..
depending on which one goes where on the alternator...
.
it doesn't matter which wires you tie to the #1 or #2 terminal from the regulator,
because there is no place to put it on the new alternator, it don't go anywhere,
the new 1wire alternator doesn't have the 2wire connector socket anymore..
you would be connecting to a loose piece of wire in a 2wire connector..
