I have a 79 with a 305 a/t a/c and my dipstick tube comes out of the pan on the drivers side. I now have 3 tubes that don’t fit that people and the internet said would work. There is no place in the block on that side for a tube. Need a picture where it attaches, number or direction to find one. I siliconed the one that is in there but as soon as you move it to check it breaks loose.
Thank You, Tom

3 different tubes not fitting? hmm, I wonder if a previous owner screwed things up. my recollection is that the dipstick tube is a snugfit into the block just above the skirt. correct? it should fit right in

Ray, GM used a oil pan that had the dip stick come out of it. somebody just stuck a tube in there that fit and cut it to match a dip stick they had.went to an old GM parts guy I know and he came up with this.GM # 12552920 tube # 10190942 stick. I now have them coming. There is no holes in the block for one.

Ray, My pan is like this with the stick in the pan. But without the ability to have a block mounted stick.

not that I'm doubting you, but could you take a picture of the side of the block showing where the dipstick is supposed to go into the pan?

I did a video. It’s starting to rain here. I hope you can see this ok. Ok, I don’t know how to get a video on here, so I took screen shots of it. Tom

ok, it's hard to tell but it looks like it goes in at a slight angle from front to back , instead of up/down. is that correct?

thought so. 99% of the pans I see just seem to angle straight up to the side. however I did spot 1 pan where it looked like the dipstick went in at an angle, pointing towards the aback of the pan instead of the bottom. naturally, I can't find that pan now 😡. but I'm wondering if it takes a special dipstick because of that?

Yes, I guess it is a special dipstick and tube. My GM parts guy is almost my age. (I don’t know why he doesn’t retire except he like breaking the young mechanics balls at the dealership.) He told me he has never seen or heard of one of these. I have a new thing to look at at the salvage yards now. These are what I ordered.
