Just bought a 1982 GMC. I want to strip off the smog and other things relying on the computer. I will sell it as a old style motor with aftermarket intake and carb. What I need to know is what is controlled by the computer on this vintage car? Where is the computer located? Is the auto trans part of the items controlled? I have a built LS motor going in this summer.
Thanks

The computer is located behind the passenger-side kick panel. Essentially, it controls carburetor mixture, timing and with some transmissions, shift calibration and/or torque convertor lockup..

I found the computer after I posted this. The trans is a turbo 350. At this point I will replace the carb with a Edelbrock, and the distributor with a HEI unit. Set timing and see it that works.
