Driverside Bellhousing side... Hydra-Matic 8634005
Below that is CFD 2 with a 3-sectioned circle containing 1280 & 22

The trans will fit onto your motor. 2004R's are combo cases which means it will bolt to any GM V8. I recommend calling ATSG at 800-245-7722 and buying the 2004R manual. That is the best one around and has tear down and reassembly pictures and descriptions. It probably cost $30. ATSG is the Automatic Transmission Service Group. I'd look at that then decide if you're up to doing this yourself. If you do decide to do it, this manual will be very helpful.

I have purchased that same manual in preparation for MY 200 4r rebuild later this year. I have skimmed through it and it seems to be chock full-o' rebuild info goodness.

X2 on the purchase.

If the tag has huge C U then it may be a 7CU 8CU 9CU or 0CU (first digit as the year.) Double check that 81U; it seems like that may be a digit off.

You don't need to waste time trying to decipher these numbers. All 2004R's use the same rebuild kit and shift kits.

If built correctly a 2004R can take that much horsepower and has great gear ratios.

I'm aware; good point to bring up.

Having bought a car with an 8CAF and replaced it with a 7CZF, I like to know a little bit more about what core I'm buying.
