I have a 86 and I have replaced the fuel tank and sending unit. Both are 17 gallon and are made for the el Camino. I believe the sending unit is a 0-90 ohm. My new fuel sending unit came with an eyelet on the black wire. I attached this to a frame ground for rear tails. Now when I turn the key the gauge reads empty. If I disconnect the frame ground it reads way past full. Question is on a factory setup does the red and black wires have rubber quick disconnects? Anyone have pictures they could share?

The gauge is doing exactly what it should do when connecting or disconnecting the ground. As far as I can remember the ground does not have a disconnect other than taking the screw out.
