In 1966 my dad order an El Camino with a remote cable adjusted drivers door mirror. That same year the mirror was broken off and the dealer replaced it with an aftermarket mirror. The aftermarket mirror does not have the bow tie but my dad insists the original had the bow tie even with the remote cable. I have never seen another 66 Elco with the remote mirror. I would love to know for sure if it should have the bow tie? is it a 2 cable or 3 cable mirror? .... And would really really really love to put an original back on the car. Anyone know about this mirror? Thanks Mike W in Akron Ohio.

Mike,

My 66 Assembly Manual shows the remote mirror has two cables.

Looks like GM part number 3961371 is what you are looking for (http://www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=75400). Internet search finds some claim bowtie, some claim without. Could be remote vs. standard, early vs. late model year, one factory vs. another, factory vs. dealer installed, service replacement, hard to be certain what's right but probably either is not wrong.

Jim,

Thanks, very helpful, the part number got to http://corvaircenter.com/phorum/read.php?1,376337
where I have learned they changed the mirror in mid production close to the time mine was built. Seems the 1st version had a moving head that broke easy. The 2nd version only moved the glass and was much better, the change happened in the 1st 6 months. My El Co is number 59977 so I am guessing built in March.
