Call ATI, California Performance Transmission, Transgo or B&M and ask the real experts... I know I can't answer your question. There are plenty of opinions here
Just loosen the tv cable a couple of threads, all shift points will be affected though, but everything stated sounds about right. So I need to lower the WOT shift points from 6000 rpm to 5500. Quick Google search shows I just need to change the governor weights and springs until it works.
I called the guy that did the rebuild on it, and he told me not to change them or bad things will happen. He told me to change the shift points using the TV cable. That doesn’t seem right. He’s also been building strictly th350, th400, and 700r4’s for 30 years, so that would be odd to not know how trannys work.
I don’t know how trannys work. I know he put the corvette servo in, raybestos clutch packs (not the cheap stage 1 ones), Beast sun shell, shift kit (maybe B&M?), lockup has been removed, new valve body. Not sure if any of these things affect the governor or not.
Should I just ignore the builder and order the weight/spring kit? I can’t find a single instance of someone successfully changing shift points using the TV cable.
