Well we pulled the V6 and tranny as one unit. Now comes the cleaning of the engine compartment in prep for paint. Once that's done, we'll probably pull the seat from the int, pull the carpet and start attacking the rust holes. The son and I are having a good time, albeit a dirty time.

Enjoy that time with your boy! I rebuilt my 56 Chevy wagon with both my boys a couple years ago. Had a great time together. Now have a 47 Chevy Delivery to start on. Keep us informed on progress with your El Camino...I have an 81 with a V6 too....not sure what to do with it as the smog laws here are such a pain. Would like to put a new 350/B&M tranny that I have in it, but expect it would never pass the tests.

That's great! It's probably best that he gets his first automotive experience working on American iron. Keep him away from the Dark Side (imports) as long as you can.
